World Jamboree History

The last World Jamboree was held on December 26, 1998 to January 10, 1999 in Santiago, Chili.

Two Troops were sent from Northern California. Our Troop was formed to include Scouts from the San Francisco Bay Area, Golden Empire, Mt.Diablo-Silverado, Redwood Empire, Maui and Aloha Councils.

Virtual Jamboree

The Jamboree was held in the foothills of the Andes, just south of Santiago. More than 20,000 Scouts and Explorers from over sixty countries came together in a program which included competition, outdoor expeditions, cultural understanding, and community service.

After the Jamboree, our Troop will took part in the Adventure Tour. For two days we hiked, rafted, swam, and rode horseback through the mountainous region of the Mapuche Indians. We visited village markets which dot the moutainsides, and ended our stay by attending a feast and Chilian rodeo.

The Jamboree is a once in a lifetime experience. It is an opportunity to meet friends from around the world. It is a time to gain a better understanding of other cultures and to have fun in the best traditions of Scouting.

Bob Russell was the Scoutmaster
Jed Richardson was the Assistant Scoutmaster
