Scouting for Food is the San Francisco Bay Area Councils major service project of the year. Over a two weekend period we collect food for the local food bank. Our contributions amount to a major portion of the food which is donated to them each year.

BAG DROP OFF
The first weekend of the food drive beginning at 9am Saturday morning we distribute bags in areas which have been pre-assigned to each unit. Maps are provided of the streets which each unit is assigned. The bags are donated by a major food chain in the area and are available to the scoutleader at the Round Table prior to the distribution.

FOOD COLLECTION
The following weekend beginning at 9am we canvis the neighborhoods where the bags were dropped and collect the food. The food is then seperated cans from packages, etc; counted and dropped off at a collection site.

Food drop sites are normally:
  • Hope Lutheran Church in the Manor (San Leandro)
  • Southland Mall in Hayward
  • Proctor School in Castro Valley

The National Guard or the Army Reserves usually provide the trucks and drivers for transporting the food from the drop sites to the food banks.

Our district normally collects around 44,971 cans of food.

See the district calender for the current years dates and information flyers.
