ACORN
BOY SCOUT LEADERS BASIC TRAINING

SCOUTMASTER FUNDAMENTALS "ACORN" TRAINING

To meet the needs of today's Scout leaders, the BSA has initiated a three-part concept in training that involves role playing and hands-on experience. This training program is for Scoutmasters, assistants, troop committee members and parents.

PART I - (6 hours) - The Troop Meeting
Duing this Saturday session, participants will become part of an adult training troop where they will plan and carry out a typical troop program through an actual troop meeting. This is a fun-filled day of learning by doing.

PART II - (2 hours) - Troop Organization
In this evening session, participants will learn to delegate and involve others in the administrative functions needed for sound troop operations. Subjects covered will include troop organization, preparing for an overnight campout, liability, registration procedures, troop budget, training and using junior leaders, membership, finances and council/district services.

PART II - (1-1/2 days) - The Outdoor Program
This weekend session will be conducted in an outdoor camp setting with provisions for overnight camping. Subjects covered will include importance of the outdoor program, practical Scoutcraft skills, importance of frequent outings and summer camp attendence, teaching of outdoor skills to youth members, a Scout's duty to God, and effective campfires.

The scout master for 2000 will be Uncle Buck.
