| January 2008 : Rio de Janiero Leila and Sandra: Ready for the Beijing's Battle The will of playing the Olympics for the forth time brought together two winning athletes: Leila, 36, and Sandra Pires, 34, come back as a team, eying the Beijing Olympic dream, in August. Both admit it won't be an easy mission because only two teams will represent Brazil. At the moment, the spots belong to Juliana/Larissa and Renata/Talita. - It's going be a war. But since we are "hungry", we'll have a try. We have to reach eight podium placements in 12 legs of the World Championship to stand a chance - said Leila, emphasizing this may be her last Olympic Games in the career, becasue she thinks of retiring in two years. Leila was playing with Ana Paula, but according to the player, each decided to follow their paths. Ana Paula must, soon, announce Shelda Bede as her new partner. As for Sandra, she was playing with Virna Dias prior to teaming up with Leila. - Virna was going trough the adaptation process on the beach, because of this, we haven't tried to play the World Championship. So this is an opportunity to return - said Sandra. Entering the World Championship's Main Draw won't be easy. Since FIVB allows only 4 Brazilian teams on the tournaments, being 3rd best ranked, Leila and Sandra will have to face the country-quota (along with the rest of the Brazilian teams) and, then, the qualification matches. However, both know each other very well, since they've already played together between 2002 and 2003. The debut of Leila and Sandra is expected for the 14th February, in Porto Alegre, the first leg of the Brazilian Circuit |

Leila has announced her retirement from volleyball. She is now currently very busy with her charity project in Brazil called "Amigos do Volei" (Friends of Volleyball), teaching young children the sport of volleyball. She is also a TV presenter for Globo TV in Rio de Janeiro. Leila has also married her long-time boyfriend Emanuel Rego in a simple yet beautiful wedding.
