First Days of School
Plan
Before Class Preparation:
- Put
name cards on the desk
- Put a
riddle on the board, something fun
- Put
out the necessary materials for the lesson
Greeting the Students:
- Stand
outside my door with a smile
- Depending
on the grade I get I will either write a note, we all know how upper
middle graders are about notes
- or say something cheerful
Introduction of Myself:
- Welcome
the students into my classroom
- State
my name
- Tell a
little bit about myself, where I am from, and educational experience
- Tell a
story or two about what I was doing at their age
- Explain
how I got started teaching, and why I want to teach
- Let
that grade know why it is important
Arrangement of my
Classroom:
- At the
beginning of class the desks will be in rows
- Once
we are to the independent practice or group work, they will be in clusters
Procedures:
1. Entering the Classroom-
o The
students will come in, given a couple of more minutes to settle after the bell
o Once
the lights are turned off the bellringer will be on
the overhead for them to complete
o When
everyone is finish we will go over the answer
o (we would role play, or use the way they came
in as the demonstration)
2. Turning in
Homework-
- Students will answer each other questions from
the homework for 2 minutes after the bellringer
- Once
the time is over, we will start the lesson
- It
will be up to the student to turn it in before class is over
- (I
would have a couple of students actually ask questions, then put homework
in their class’s tray)
3. Clean up-
- Clean
up should start about 7 minutes before the class is over
- All
material is to be returned to the appropriate location
- Desks
will be put back into their original rows, like they were at the beginning
of class
4. Dismissal from the
Class-
- Most
of the time the bell will dismiss the students
Policies:
1. Attendance-
Attendance at all class meetings is required
and is essential to your success in this class. Students are expected to be on
time and to actively engage in discussions. More than 1 unexcused absence
and/or tardy will result in a lower six week grade at my discretion. Absences
will be excused only according to the school’s Code of Conduct.
2. Grading-
- 3
major tests will be given per semester, which is one every six weeks. Make-up
tests because of an absence on a test date are generally given the next
time the student is present for class.
- Daily
grades will be complied from homework, group work, in-class activities,
and quizzes
- A quiz
will be given half way through every six weeks. They will be announced at
least one class period in advance. They will cover the announced material.
- Grading
Scale by Percent%: A-[90,100), B-[80,90), C-[70,80), F-[60,under)
3. Late
Work- I will accept late work, but it will have 5% taken off for everyday
it is late. For example, if student A turns in an assignment 3 days late, it
will have 15% taken off.
4. Written
Assignments-
All written assignments are to be typed
double-spaced in a legible 12pt. font. Writing should exhibit professional quality
and demonstrate mastery of organization, structure, and editing. Excessive
grammar, spelling, and/or vocabulary errors will result in a reduction of
points at my discretion.

Positive Expectations-
I look forward to seeing everyone
actively engaged in class discussion, willing to participate in class
activities, and on time ready for class with the necessary materials.
