A Feather, A Flame, and A Capture

This is set about 20 years after the latest episodes of Pokémon.

There was a terrible war going on. A war between Team Rocket and the 'good' people. Team Rocket's army was lead by Giovanni (hey, he wasn't THAT old 20 years ago!) and the 'good' peoples' army was lead by Professor Oak. Not the Professor Oak you remember, but his grandson. Yep, you guessed it. Gary. Everyone had known it was going to happen, but they had prayed it wouldn't happen for a long, long time.

But, as it happened, it wasn't that long after. The war didn't have much impact on schooling, except for with two children, both in the Sixth Grade. Thier names were Erick and Dakoda. They weren't the best of friends, since they were a girl and a boy. And especially because Erick was on Team Rocket's side, Dakoda on the good side. But they did have something in common, which made them become a team.

They both desperatly wanted the war to stop. Both of thier parents were in the war, in danger. They were probably trying to destroy each other. But Erick and Dakoda didn't care. Erick was living by himself. Dakoda was living with one of her aunts, Daisy.

Erick had red hair with blueish purple streaks about the length of his fathers, just a little shorter, and blue-green eyes. Dakoda had long, black hair and green eyes.

"Mrs. Yamato, I'm not going to finish this homework," Erick said handing the paper on Pokémon Attacks back to her.

"And why not? You must get your stubborness from your mother," she replied.

"Hey, lady, don't talk about my mother like that! She's saving other people's butts out on a battlefield, right now!" Erick said, "And I'm not doing it because I'm leaving tonight." This made Mrs. Yamato (okay, I'm really sick of saying that!! Let's call her Cassidy after this!) wonder what he was doing.

"You're going to war with your mother and father?" she asked snottily (is that a word?).

"No, I'm going to Mewtwo's Bay." Cassidy looked at him over the top of her rather ugly glasses she wore while teaching because she had to try to look smart.

"Why are you going there? Mewtwo disappeared way before you were born, so you can't catch him." Erick gave her an irritated look.

"I'm not going to try to catch Mewtwo! I'm going there to get to the cave under Kireihana's Forest," he said.

"What are you doing that for?" Cassidy asked.

"I'm not telling you," Erick said and went back to his seat.

"Erick?" Dakoda asked quietly from the desk beside his.

"Yeah?" he replied.

"What *are* you doing in that cave?" she asked.

"I've heard a legend that if you get a Feather of an Articuno, some of a Moltres' Flame, and you capture a Zapdos, you will get any one wish. I have to get those things, because this war has to end," he replied. Dakoda looked at him, surprised.

"Why do you want the war to end? I mean of course I want it to end too, I just would like to know your reasons why... I mean... you're with Team Rocket... you, uh, *like* fighting," she asked.

"Why does my being in Team Rocket make me like fighting? And I want the war to end because my parents are in it. They want it to end so much too... I'm doing it for them," Erick said.

"Wow, that's why I want it to end too. Both my parents are in the war... uh... going against yours. I mean sure I don't like Team Rocket much, but I'd be so ashamed of my parents if they killed one of yours, and I'd be soooo angry if your parents killed one of mine." Erick raised an eyebrow.

"Your parents are Ash and Misty, aren't they? All this time I thought your last name was just a funny coincidence," Erick said.

"Yes, they are. I take it your parents are Jessie and James?" Dakoda asked. Erick nodded.

"Yes... did your parents ever tell you about thier childhood?" Erick asked.

"No... why?" Erick grinned.

"Well, your father was very set on being a Pokémon Master. He started out with a Pikachu. Your mother followed him around on his journey, claiming it was because of the loss of her bike. She had water Pokémon. My parents were Team Rocket members back then too, and at first not the best ones, and they always chased your parents around along with this guy name Brock, and later Tracey replacing him, for your father's Pikachu," Erick said, laughing at the thought.

"Wow how do you know all this?" Dakoda asked.

"Because my dad told me. And guess what? Mrs. Yamato and Mr. Yamato were Team Rocket members then too. Yamato was originally Mrs. Yamato's last name, she wouldn't take Mr. Yamato's, which was Kosaburo, so he took hers. Thier first names are Cassidy and Butch," Erick said.

"WHO JUST SAID CASSIDY AND BUTCH??" Mrs. Yamato yelled. Erick held his breath, thinking Dakoda would tell her he did it. She didn't. "Well whoever it was better not say it again." Everyone else looked puzzled at why saying those two names together was so terrible.

"Erick, I want to come with you." Erick looked at Dakoda.

"You *WHAT*?" he asked, surprised.

"I want to come with you," she said, "We'll be partners, just like your parents were when they were younger. What Pokémon do you have to work with?"

"I have to see what ones I'm going to take. I know I'm taking my Eebi," Erick replied.

"I'll take my regular Pokémon: Staryu, Omanyte, Horsea, and Poliwag, my dad's Pikachu, and my aunt Daisy's Gyarados," Dakoda said.

"You are going to be a Water Trainer like your mother and her sisters?" Erick asked. Dakoda nodded. "Alright... if you really want to go, meet me after school in back. We can take the secret path through the woods to my house," Erick said.

"Okay," Dakoda said, right before the bell rang.

"Only one class left!" Erick said to himself, and headed from Pokémon Basics to Trainer Battling class. He didn't like Trainer Battling much, but his teacher was Mr. Yamato, who was always nice because he really really liked Jessie, Erick's mother. It went by quickly today, and soon he was waiting behind the school for Dakoda. She showed up a few minutes late.

"Sorry I'm late, I have Elements class last hour and Mr. Ivy kept me after for a sec to ask me some stuff. Where do you live, anyway?" she asked.

"You'll see," Erick said as he led her up the path. They walked a ways, when finally they came to a clearing. "That," Erick said, pointing to the Kojiro Mansion, "Is my house." Dakoda gasped.

"Aw, it ain't that big. C'mon, we've gotta hurry," Erick said, and started to run.

Once they got inside, Dakoda was ooing and ahhing everying, but followed Erick to what appeared to be just a closet, because the door was so narrow. Erick punched in a few numbers on a electric number lock, and the door popped open. Inside was a huge room. It was divided in half, half Jessie's Pokémon, half James'. They were in order of their numbers, and each had what looked like a clock under them, and they all said the time.

"See," Erick said, "You press the over button, and it scans the Pokéball. It will tell you the Pokémon inside, it's height, weight, level, and Exp. Points." Dakoda was stunned. "Well, what Pokémon should I take? My dad has all the Pokémon but Lugia and Houou, and so does my mom." Dakoda didn't speak for a minute, she was playing with Jessie's Clefable's Pokéball scanner thingy.

"Well, I don't know. I've heard your mom is one of the greatest trainers in Team Rocket, and your dad became a great breeder, better than Mr. Ivy even," Dakoda said.

"True..." Erick said. "I'll take my mom's Flareon and Vaporeon, my dad's Jolteon, my mom's Kireihana, and..." Erick said as he thought.

"Dragonite! Take your dad's Dragonite!" Dakoda said.

"Okay," Erick said, and took his father's Dragonite out of it's holder and detached the wire connecting the Pokéball scanner.

"Do you have a room like this?" Dakoda asked.

"Yes," Erick said, "It's down the hall a ways, next to my room. I only have 47 Pokémon though." He put all 5 Pokémon onto his belt next to Eebi, and they left the house. Before leaving completely, Erick gave Growlie a new bone to chew on. "We need to level up your Pokémon if we're going to get any of the three things. What levels are they, anyway?" Erick asked.

"Staryu is level 17, Omanyte is level 20, Horsea level 17, and Poliwag level 18. Pikachu is now level 99, and Gyarados is level 82," Dakoda replied.

"Good. They're at great levels for you not going on your Pokémon Journey when you were 10. That stunk I really wanted to go too, but the war made it impossible," Erick said. Dakoda nodded.

"I know... But you couldn't have gone on a Pokémon Journey, Rocket Members can't do that," she said.

"I can. I'm a Rocket Member because my parents are, and Giovanni even said when I was five that the day I turned ten I could go on a Pokémon Journey if I wanted to, as long as I didn't turn good."

"Oh," Dakoda said, staring over the horizon. They both sat down on a park bench not to far outside the city. They weren't afraid of getting caught, if anyone found them they could just say they were on a walk. Erick found a day-old newspaper in the trash.

"Hey! Look!" he said.

"What?" Dakoda asked, distracted from the nap she had been taking.

"They are fighting on Cinnibar Island now," Erick said.

"Big deal, let me sleep." He learned something good that day. When she's tired, Dakoda is crabby.

He never forgot that. He knew she cared, her parents were there right now, but he just let her sleep. She woke up awhile later, and they continued on into the dark. They made camp in Kireihana's Forest, about two miles away from Mewtwo's Bay. He let out Jessie's Kireihana, Blossom, and she ran to go play with all the other Kireihana under the stars. He knew she'd be back. Then he went to bed.

When he woke up, Dakoda was still asleep. He decided to go for a walk. He set down Kireihana's Pokéball on his sleeping bag, and took an empty one and put it in that one's place, incase he found any Pokémon he wanted to catch. He took out a gold box, and opened it, revealing a golden Pokéball.

'I'm lucky to have this,' he thought, 'The Masterball...' He put the box back into his backpack and walked on.

"Kirei!" he heard in the bushes.

"Blossom!" he said as she jumped to him. "I left your Pokéball back at the camp, little girl! You'll have to walk," Erick said and smiled.

"Kirei, Kireihana!" she said and walked next to him. They had long conversations, because Jessie had taught Erick the Pokémon language. Plus he knew Kireihana well because she had always played with him when he was little, along with Growlie and his Eevee, Kiana, which was now his Eebi. He heard another rustle in the bushes. This time it wasn't Blossom.

"Meeeeeeeeowth!" Erick grinned.

"It's a Meowth!" he exclaimed.

"Meeeeeeeeowth! Of coise I'm a Meowth!" Erick looked surprised.

"You.. you... you talk!" he exclaimed. "I... I've only heard of one Meowth that can talk!" Meowth looked Erick over.

"Oh, you must be Jess and James' kid, you look like 'em..." Meowth said.

"Meowth? You're their friend Meowth?" Erick asked. "

Well, yeah."

Erick grinned. "They said you were dead... gone or something. You're lying," he said.

"That's what they think. I left cuz they made me do all the woik."

"So, if you know them so well, what are they doing now?" Meowth thought a moment.

"They're part of Giovanni's army, I'm sure."

Part 2 hopefully coming soon...
