The Tale of Dragoon Island

Giovanni stared at us menacingly. I knew he wanted to get rid of us. "I want the three of you, imbeciles, to hike to Dragoon Cove," he told us, "to fetch me a sample of a Minidraco egg and a male Largolizard." Bull. "Remember to keep in mind that they are fire types and have the same body structure as that of a snake," he continued. Bull.

"What about the Pikachu Project?" James asked.

"That assginment will go to Butch and Cassidy." Giovanni reported. I glanced at Meowth, who was cleaning himself like a normal Meowth would.

"But, can we take anyone with us?" I asked cautiously. He nodded.

"Only one person, plus Meowth."

The Tale of Dragoon Cove

I glared at the map. I was starting to think this expedition was a load of... 'Growlithe poop.' James and Mondo agreed. Meowth just slept at the bottom of the Meowth Air Balloon's basket, so I couldn't get any comments out of him. It had been two days since we'd left Giovanni's office.

"Jessie," James shrieked, pointing to the island under us, "look!" I bent over the side. The veiw was beautiful. Sand covered dunes lined the cove. We were drifting beside the canopy of a dense forest.

"Whoa." Mondo was staring at the landscape as well.

"Yeah, it is really nice." I gazed at Dragoon Cove. Suddenly, a stream of fire came rushing at us, burning out part of the basket. I jumped back.

"Oh my god!"

"Geez." Mondo pulled out his Pokedex. "What's that Pokemon." A dragon creature hovered about ten metres in front of us. It looked like a large flying snake, but red and orange.

"Largolizard," Mondo's Pokedex beeped, "this Pokemon uses a wingspan of 11 metres to swoop more vunerable Pokemon. Use extreme caution." Oh damn! I guess Mondo and James were thinking the same thing.

We tried frantically to make the balloon travel away from it, but our efforts were in vain. We screamed in horror as the dragon's Fireblast attack was spat at the balloon. The first few missed Meowth's (the balloon) charm and mouth by mere inches.

"Jump!" James' shrill call sounded. Mondo grabbed most of our equipment and leapt into a nearby tree. James followed. Meowth! I made a grab for Meowth and jumped into James' arms.

The Meowth balloon exploded. It was now laying, tattered in the tree. No more means of transport. Well, it was destroyed by a fireball.I looked into the sky. At least that Largolizard wasn't there anymore. I exhaled slowly and turned to James and Mondo, who were lowering themselves to the ground. I clambered down to join them. Meowth awoke and climbed down himself.

"Meowth! Geez, wheres are we?" Meowth muttered. I stared at our surroundings. Dark forest, lot's of trees and we're totally lost.

"Oh my god!" I heard James gasp. He was pointing to a large footprint on the ground. It had to be over a metre in diameter. The shape of it told us that it belonged to a lizard, but larger. I looked up. There was half a dozen of them up ahead. Mondo stashed our supplies under a low bush.

"Let's follow them," Mondo suggested, "they may lead to more Pokemon." Thankfully enough, the footprints did lead us to more Pokemon.

They must've been dragon's too. They were probably the most beautiful Pokemon I'd ever seen. Fire breathing (like most of the others), but these stood on all fours. And had a horn on their head. I think they were vegetarian. Emphasis on the think. They had to be only two metres long by one metre high.

Mondo Pokedex beeped. "Minidraco," the mechanical voice beeped, "this is the perfect starting Pokemon for any beginning trainer. Very placid."

"We need one of those," James whispered to no one in particular.

"Shut that thing up!!" I whispered to Mondo, "it'll scare them away."

"Look yous," Meowth pointed to the Minidraco herd, "it must be their breeding area." I scanned the herd, that were standing in a clearing, rimmed with ferns. Some were playing piggie-back and others were just cuddling against each other.

"Which would mean..." I calculated, "there are some Minidraco eggs in there."

"And wes gotta swipe 'em!" Meowth told us. I suddenly had an idea.

"James, Mondo," I reported, "you stay here and keep watch. I'll get an egg."

"Be careful, Jess," Mondo warned, "they have a horn." I kept low in the bushes and crept towards a nest. Past the mother. I reached for a rock and threw it to the other end of the herd, to distract them. The Minidraco run away from where the rock fell, in pure horror. I felt something warm and soft against my right arm.

I looked down and saw..."Ack! The Twerp!!" I backed off a bit. Then I added in a whisper, "What the hell are YOU doing here?"

"We wanna know why you guys are here," Misty pops up behind Ash. Tracey, who is barely veiwable, seemed to be looking at the Minidraco herd through a pair of binoculars. I glance in James and Mondo's direction. They haven't seen them.

"I am Ash Ketchum, from Pallet Town," Ash yelled as he suddenly stood up (for no apparent reason), "and I will capture you all!!" I quickly grabbed his Pokebelt and pulled him back into the long grass.

"What are you doing?" I whispered to him, loudly, "You're gonna get us all killed." The ground vibrated. Very BIG footsteps were being made. For example, by a two ton Minidraco. I looked around. Ash, Misty and Tracey have gone... and a male Minidraco is charging at me.

"Jessie!!" I hear Mondo squeal, "Get out of there! You're gonna get trampled." He ran out of his hiding spot and into the clearing, so that he turned the Pokemon attention away from me. The Minidraco turned, as I crawled toward James.

"James!!" James and Meowth snapped their heads in my direction, "We've got to get away from here!" James nodded and yanked Mondo back into the bushes and into his arms. I spotted Team Twerp walk toawrd us.

"Run, Mondo." I kept my glare at the Ash-tachi. They were probably looking for us. James and Meowth had fled to were Mondo lay hidden in the dense shrub.

"Misty." Ash stood only a metre away. I kept my back against the vine-covered tree, to hide my uniform. "I'm gonna kill her for scaring away those Minidraco!"

"Yeah, Ash. I know." In silent prayer, I wished them to go.

"Ash," I heard the larger brat say, "it's gettin' rather late, isn't it?"

"Yeah, I suppose." They continued down to the edge of the beach and sailed home on Misty's new-found Blastoise. I let out a sighed of relief and made my way to where James, Mondo and Meowth were hiding.

Many lizard-like creatures lined the barely veiwable path-way. We were going to sleep out here. With only a tent? I sat wide awake in my sleeping bag. The others were asleep. My body needed to stretch. My back ached. My legs. My arms. My head. I finally rose to my feet, only to hit my head on the tent's cloth roof.

The tent was only about 2 metres long, by 1 metre wide. It was hard to move around, with two other humans and a cat with you. The sound of water trickling sounded in the distance. Then I realised; my throut was so sore. I needed a drink.

I staggered foward in the darkness, using my sense of sound to guide me. Up ahead, I soon spotted a lake with a variety of ferns and small plants surrounding it. It looked very beautiful, bathed in moonlight.

My hair flowed gently around my face. The hairspray had worn out for another day. I couldn't get distracted out here. In the dark. On an island where dragons stalk you. When you're alone. But, I have a fast reaction-time. I'll be fine, I thought. Through the canopy, the moonlight shone, through a small gap, like a sun beam. I stared out at the stars through it. In my most vulnerable state, I leaned over and drank from the clear lake.

"Rrreeeeeech!" A creature squealed in my ear, as it's claws suddenly scraped across my back, ripping through my uniform. I screamed in pain and terror. I was scared. I feared that my life had come to an end.

The lizard-like thing wrestled me into the lake, staining the water a crimson red. It was probably one of the other bloodthirsty dragons of Dragoon Cove. I kicked it off and swam too the surface to breathe. A scaley hand with razor sharp claws yanked on my leg, pulling me under.

"Frothur," a mechanical voice beeped, "yet another dragon of the magnificent Dragoon Cove. This Pokemon can swim, as well as walk on land." I spyed Mondo standing at the edge of the wide lake, holding his Pokedex.

"Jessie!" he cried, "hang on, I'll get you out!!" I felt a claw rip at my eye. Another scream. I'm gonna die, I thought. Then, a rope hit my head. Mondo was attached to it. I held onto the rope as Mondo pulled me onto dry land. I breathed heavily, making each breath count. I smiled at my rescuer and gave a hug.

"She's got severe head wound and her eye... let's not think about it," Mondo reported to no one in particular as he patched up my head.

"Thanks," I said.

"For what?"

"For saving me back there. I owe you." Mondo looked shocked.

"I'll shake on it. I owe you." I held out my hand, which he shook. He forever had all of my trust, until a week later...

Our team strolled casually along the path, that was only a half metre wide. It was probably made by a Minidraco herd, if they went in one by one. We each had to be on the look-out for Largolizard and Frothur. It was definitely not safe here. We have our Minidraco egg and all we needed was a male Largolizard. James was at the back of our pack, behind me. Meowth led us and Mondo was somewhere in between. The air was full of morning dew, making visible puffs of air when we exhaled. Rumbling was heard in the distance.

"I don't neccessarily like the sound of that," Meowth grumbled. Mondo gulped and everyone moved on. After a few minutes, the air carried a putrid aroma. Our pace fastened. No one dared to speak....

"Largolizard," a voice said, "this Pokemon uses a wingspan of 11 metres to swoop more vunerable Pokemon. Use extreame caution." I glanced down at Mondo's Pokedex. One of the buttons was being pushed in by a twig of a bush that lined the path.

"Mondo," I gasped, "turn that thing off!" He fumbled with the stick.

"I can't, Jessie!" I ripped the stick out, but the button was permanantly stuck.

"We'll have to get as far away from..." I started to say. My comrades were facing me, but with a look a pure terror mused on their faces. A shadow loomed over us. I turned around and pouted...

"Aahhhhh!!" We ran. And ran. And ran more. But as fast as we ran, the Largolizard could easily catch up.

"Jessie!" I heard a familiar voice. "Help me!!" I turned to see that Mondo had tripped and his leg was severely twisted. I scooped him into my arms, a matter of moments before the Largolizard could've snapped us up into those jaws. My speed rivaled James' and Meowth's and I had no trouble catching up and overtaking them. Ahead, I saw that the path ended. "Jess, into the tree," Mondo croaked and pointed at a large, overgrown tree. I immediately clambered up it and sat myself into a thick branch with Mondo at my side.

A few seconds later James was spotted limping up the path with Meowth. Once he was at the foot of the tree, I reached for his hand. We couldn't reach. An inch of space between us. I shifted my position. But, before I could grab his arm, the Largolizard flew by, grabbing him by his injured leg.

James struggled in the lizard's mouth. No such luck. The Largolizard was followed by the rest of his pack. My friend let go of Meowth and let him fall limply to the ground. Meowth was then dead. He had a bad gash at his head to start with. I saw the Largolizard pack group together in the clearing.

They ripped my friend to peices. One of them, was playing tug-of-war with another with my best friend's leg. I felt tears ripple down my face and onto Mondo's head. He was crying too. Two of our friends. Gone. Cease to live. Nothing. We spent the night in that tree. Then ventured back to where our camp was at five in the morning. With two less people. We packed up. We left the island, by a raft made of tree branches. All we ever thought about were our two friends. James and Meowth.

"It was a suicide mission," I screamed at him. He only smirked. "Why did you want to get rid of us?!"

"Not you," he said, "your friend and the talking Meowth." I was confused.

"Why?!" I demanded, "Why didn't you kill me as well."

"I want you to take my mother's place," Giovanni said, "she was to be wed to me."

"Why should I marry you?" I yelled, "you've taken away my soul-mate. My only friends, not including Mondo. You know what you are?" Mondo shook his head at me. I ignored him.

"Try me."

"A filthy, worthless bastard. That what you are." I never broke my stare at him. Suddenly he lashed out and seized my arm. He brought his mouth to my ear.

"I killed James and Meowth," he whispered. I gasped and watched him morph. Into a Largolizard. "I killed them!!" he boomed. I broke down and cried. His warm breath brushed against my face. I ran.Out of Giovanni's office, where Mondo followed me. The administration showed nowhere to hide. I grabbed Mondo and sprinted to my cabin.

"It was my fault." Mondo buried his face in his arms. "All my fault." I put a hand on his shoulder.

"No it wasn't."

"I don't deserve to live." The words pricked me like a needle. I bit my bottom lip." Accidents happen. Sometimes, there's nothing you can do about it."

Suddenly, the roof of my cabin was ripped off. Giovanni, the Largolizard now loomed above us. I inhaled as Giovanni's left wing came crashing into us....

The end? I dunno. If I get good feedback/reviews I might continue it. This was my second finishd fan fiction. I'm proud... sorta. Oh yeah, I ACTUALLY OWN THEM!! (as if anyone would believe that - I don't, OK). It takes forever for me to write stuff like this. I hope ya' enjoyed it!! I don't blame you if you get bored. --Destiny fox.
