Snake Eyes

I was young, in this strange ball. I was pushing on the sides, trying to escape, when I heard a strange voice.

"Happy birthday, Jesse!" And then another.

"Oh, thank you, Daddy!"

This wasn't my mother. Where was she? Then, I was enveloped in a red light. It made me dizzy and I felt like I was leaving the ball.

When I opened my eyes, there was a little red-haired girl in front of me. She took one look at me and looked like she was about to explode.

"It's an Ekans! Oh, this is the best birthday present in the world!" She threw her arms around me.

This must be my new trainer!" I thought, and hissed with delight.

I was awakened from my dream of the past by a familiar voice, saying a familiar phrase: "Ekans, go!"

The red light took me in and I left the ball. I don't think I'll ever get used to that part.

When I materialized on the floor, I saw Jesse in front of me, with James and Meowth close by. We were in a long corridor, but it seemed to be upside down.

"Ekans," she said," make a hole in the floor with your acid!"

Wherever we were, she had been trying to get out. I nodded and spat a green gob of acid onto the floor. It made a great big hole.

Then there was a rumble and water began spouting from the hole.

"What are you're doing?" screamed Meowth, "Do you think this ship needs any more holes?"

So that's it! We were on a sunken ship. Jesse recalled me to the Pokeball just as a great wave came and I heard the rushing of water all around.

After a minute or so, I hadn't heard us resurface.

"I hope everything's alright." I thought. I was about to try and get out of the Pokeball when I heard a faint sound, growing louder.

"Goldeen, Goldeen, Goldeen." The sound stopped when it got close. Then, I heard it swim around Jesse and start pushing us.

I breathed a sigh of relief. The Goldeen threw us up onto land and those kids that always beat us up screamed. I'd recognize them anywhere.

"Prepare...Prepare for trouble..." Jesse said weakly. She didn't sound too good.

"Yes...And make it double..."said James. He didn't sound too good either.

They jumped up and challenged the kids to a battle. Why Jesse wanted to battle after she had nearly drowned, I'll never know.

Koffing and I came out of our Pokeballs and sized up our opponents.

A Bulbasaur, a Squirtle, a Charmander and a Geodude. Not exactly fair, but I waited for my master's command anyway.

Then, the room tilted and we all slid to the end. We were in a pile in one corner and the room was continuing to tilt.

"Bulbasaur, Squirtle, Charmander, Geodude, Ekans, Koffing," yelled the kid with the hat,"To the other side!"

Normally, I wouldn't listen to him, but everyone else ran and Jesse didn't argue, so I slithered to the other side, too.

The room tilted the other way and all the humans slid onto us.

Those kids eat too much! They were heavy! But, the hat kid sent us to the other side again. And the ship tilted again.

And the humans slid into us again. This continued for a few minutes until the kids recalled their Pokemon. Then the redhead kid bullied Jesse and James into recalling me and Koffing.

I didn't mind, I was getting sore from having everyone falling on me. Then everyone made a temporary truce. The redhead kid must have bullied them into it again. I know. I heard the Pikachu shock Meowth.

Glad it wasn't me.

Everyone was walking along through the ship, occasionally calling on another Pokemon for help. The conversation wasn't very interesting, and I was about to go to sleep, when I heard fire. It was very loud, the whole room must have been on fire. The kids were muttering about how they were going to get across, then James said to Jesse,

"Jessica?" He never called her by her full name. No one else ever did, for that matter. This sounded interesting. I pressed the side of my head to the wall of the Pokeball to hear better.

"Yes, James?" Whoever said that beauty doesn't last must have been talking about us. The emotion was so strong now, I could smell it. Those two should get married or something.

"I'll always remember what a wonderful dresser you were." Then, I heard the Bulbasaur come out. It seemed that the hat kid had a plan. And from what I heard, the idea was to cross a fiery pit on the Bulbasaur's vine whips. If I were human, I would've written out a will right there. James wailed,

"I can't cross that inferno Jesse, Meowth, you go on without me. I can't make it!"

"James, James, James, James, James!" yelled Jesse, smacking him several times. "How long do you think you would last on this side?" Leave it to Jesse to smack some sense into James.

Pun intended.

"We'll go together."Jesse said.

"Don't leave me!" James whimpered.

"I won't leave you."Jesse said kindly. Was this it Were they finally going to...?

"Hey, Team Rocket!" yelled the hat kid from the other side of the fire pit. You'd think he could at least learn our names. We see him and his friends often enough. Jesse and James panicked.

"Don't leave us here! Please send back the vines!" The vines were sent back and Jesse went first. It started getting really hot inside my Pokeball. I went over to my water cooler and had a little cup of mineral water. What, you didn't think Pokeballs were just round rooms, did you?

Well, Jesse finally reached the other side and fell to her knees. James seemed to do likewise. The redhead kid said,

"This is no time to take a break!" I would've bitten her right then if I could have.

Everyone continued walking until they came to wherever it was they wanted to go and the hat kid got his Charmander to fire blast through the ship hull.

"Ok," said the redhead kid, "Everyone grab a water Pokemon and head straight to the surface.

No, duh.

"Wait a second," I thought, "Jesse and James don't have any water Pokemon!"

And that's exactly what Jesse said a few seconds later. Apparently, the kids had left, the ship was rapidly filling with water, and Jesse and James were stranded. How rude!

Meowth was panicking because he was getting wet, and then James began to gloat about the Magikarp he bought.

I'm still not sure if that idiotic thing counts as a Pokemon, let alone a water type.

Anyways, Jesse, James and Meowth tied themselves to the thing and quickly discovered that it was worthless. The ship finished filling with water and started to sink.

I was really starting to panic. Jesse will never make it to the surface! But, how could I help?

I didn't even know if I could swim. I could feel us sinking farther and farther down into the sea, but then Jesse seemed to climb out of the hole in the ship. James and Meowth must have been with her, since they were all still tied to the Magikarp.

We went up and up, then slower as Jesse ran out of air. Oh, Jesse!

I couldn't just sit there in my Pokeball while my master drowned!

We drifted up to the surface and I was about to try breaking out of my Pokeball, when I heard another noise. Of flapping wings...And then,

"PidgeAAAAAAAAWWWWWWW!" It was the hat kid's Pidgeotto!

It found us and pulled us back to the kids' raft. How did they get a raft, anyway?

Well, the kids pulled us up. Jesse didn't move. If James was nearby, I couldn't tell if he was moving either.

"I guess they didn't make it to the surface." the redhead said quietly. Didn't make it?

"I guess the only thing to do is give them a proper burial at sea." said the kid with the weird eyes. Toss them back in the ocean? Not while I was around!

I began slamming against the side of my Pokeball as Jesse and James were pushed towards the side of the raft. The Pokeball was just starting to wiggle when Jesse and James leapt up. I was never so happy for a sudden movement in my life, even if it did knock over my water cooler.

Meowth was yelling something about getting wet, and I didn't hear anything else for a few minutes, I was just so happy that Jesse was alive. And James, too. Jesse would be heart-broken if he didn't make it, and I'd miss Koffing. I'd miss Meowth, too, I guess. We're like a big family.

The next thing I heard was Meowth screaming that his teeth hurt, and the redhead telling him that he shouldn't have bitten the Magikarp.

"They must be hungry." I thought. "They haven't eaten in, what, 6, 8 hours?" Not a problem for me. I had a little fridge in my Pokeball.

The Pikachu was hungry too, I don't know why it didn't just go into it's Pokeball. It's never in a Pokeball, come to think of it. I realized then how tired I was. It's like that human saying, "A day of worry is like a lot of work." Or something like that.

I laid down to rest, never knowing the rude awakening I would get later.

By a Gyarados alarm clock.
