PINPOINTING YOUR TARGET

While sweeping do not forget to listen for faint signals.

especially the faint ones, beginners often only dig targets that

sound off loudly, when in fact the faint signals may be a deep

or a small target, sometime a good rule of thumb is to use the

all metals mode in the begining when you are first starting out.

Once you have detected a target you can save time and avoid

digging a large hole by PINPOINTING a target that you have found.

Sweep over the target and find the signal, then draw an imaginary

X pattern accross the target area, mentally take note where the

signal sounds off,go both ways in the X pattern and dig at the centerpoint.

If your not in all metals, you can switch to the all metal mode

once you pinpointed,so you can find the target with ease

HUNTING IN TRASHY AREAS

When you are hunting in trashy areas always remember to dig all signals, start clearing the area of all the garbage.

Once the garbage is cleared from the area it will unmask the good stuff.

To optimize your search in this sort of area,i advise you to look into buying a four inch search coil.

The four inch coil is good becouse it has a better chance of picking up a masked out target within a trashy area.

DETECTOR SETTINGS

Settings on a detector vary,on my detector while working in an auto notch setting i like to turn the sensitivity up to about 3/4 full and i adjust the discrimination full counter clock wise i feel that this optimizes your search.

Working in an all metals setting you will gain substantial depth, but you will be digging everything mettalic, and you must remember that you must ground balance your detector in this mode of operation.

DIGGING YOUR TARGETS

When digging targets cut about a three inch plug in the ground, anything bigger then this is to large.

Always remember, when digging an area, leave the area as you find it.

Respect the land owner, for you are a guest on his property.

When i go detecting i always bring along a small piece of cardboard, when i find the target and cut the plug i lay everything from the plug on the cardboard,i then find the item and then i return everything on the cardboard back into the ground(a very neat process)

HOW TO ASK PERMISSION

TO SEARCH PROPERTY

Asking permission to search a land owners property is essential.

Laws on tresspassing hold stiff penalties, you could be arrested,or fined of both.

GO to the land owner and say something like this:Metal detecting is my hobby and i enjoy finding old coins and relics in the ground.

I was wondering if i could search your land with my metal detector?

You can even invite the land owner to come along with you on your hunt, sometimes curiosity may have them follow you around.

Always remember to be polite, and if the land owner askes you to find an item that he once lost, help him.

HAVING FUN WITH YOUR HOBBY

Last but not least, try not to get discouraged if you dont find anything good while out searching.

Remember to take breaks every once in awhile so it wont become a stressfull event.

Detecting is fun,and the rewards will become great,so keep at it and you will become better and better each time you go out.

LAST OF ALL GOOD LUCK
