From underneath delicate locks of red hair, her deep green eyes peer out at you, sparkling and sincere. She smiles at you. You can't help it, you smile back at her. Her stout dwarven body glows with a brilliant aura of goodwill.
From behind her, you can see the translucent glow of a pair of angel's wings. They sparkle as she moves them. Just being near this beautiful creature makes you feel calm. Your worries seem to fade away.

Many years ago now, a young dwarven girl mysteriously appeared in the city of Moonglow. It was not known from where she hailed, as she preferred not to speak of her past. It was unusual to see a dwarven girl along among the other races, but there she was.

Noticably, contrary to her dwarven culture, her face was hairless. It did not seem as though she had ever worn a beard and her speech lacked the distinctive dwarven grunt. Some people even ventured to say that it seemed to have an almost elven accent. It was almost as though she was raised by a culture other than her own.

If truth need be known, many of the rumors that had spread were in fact true. She never had grown a beard, nor did dwarves play much part in raising her.

She was born to a poor family somewhere in or near the village of Serwood. From what has been discovered of her family history, it seems apparent that her father was a fisherman and her mother had been a servant for the dwarven King.

When the girl was merely an infant, her father died in a freak squall, leaving his wife to raise their daughter alone. Desperately, the poor widow sought work to support herself and her baby.

She searched every corner of Omelos for work, but to no avail. Early one morning, the pair were discovered by huddled in a ditch in the fprest near the Elven Kingdom. A matter of hours later, the mother died. The baby was very ill, but quickly recovered with the help of the elves.

Now orphaned, the tiny dwarfette was given the name Elkyne and was raised by the servants of the palace. As she grew older, she befriended a young elven girl of noble birth by the name of Kathryn. During their childhoods, the girls were almost like sisters.

As time wore on, the girls began to lead different lives. Elkyne became fascinated with her dwarven culture and left the safety and comfort of the palace to lead the life of a warrior.

So it came that young Elkyne found her way to Moonglow (which isn’t far from the Elven Kingdom, but then again, dwarves are not known for their exploring capabilities).

Her first few years in the city are a blur of history, but it became clear that at some point during those years, she became a member of a pirate clan known for their equipment acquiring services.

The Taife Reisi, or TR as it was better known was lead by a young halfling couple. The couple, Oyn and Devlin Abendroth became like pseudo parents to the young dwarf and helped her in her early years of independence.

During this time, Elkyne befriended an orc by the name of Orion. Their friendship was a strong one and Orion did all in his power to help his young dwarven friend. Much to Elkyne’s disappointment, Orion disappeared and she thought she would never see him again.

As time passed, the dwarven girl grew up to become a beautiful dwarven woman. At some stage during her life, she came to doubt the merits of battle and began to look into her soul for guidance.

She took to exploring and writing instead of battle and joined a group known as the Nomads. She established herself as a known bardess in the realm. Her stories tended to revolve around memories of her younger years.

For quite some time, she led a lonely life. There were a few relationships worth mentioning. One of these relationships, and quite a short one, was with a sly goblin thief known as Duff and a second with Medea, a good friend who happened to be Immortal. The pair often talked for hours and it broke Elkyne’s heart when Medea called it off.

One day, as she was going about her daily activities, she noticed a familiar face in the crowded Moonglow center place.

‘Orion!’ she cried out ‘Is that really you?’

The tired old orc looked down on here with a weary expression. After a moment, a grin spread across the travel-worn face.

‘Hello, Elkyne!’ he said happily. ‘How I have missed you!’

‘You have?’ asked the dwarf, incredulously.

It so happened that the pair were soon engaged, and remained that way for many years. Eventually, they took their vows in a small ceremony in the Moonglow chapel.

A year or two passed and the pair proudly announced the adoption of Mordrax, a young elf. The proud couple was heartbroken when their beloved son disappeared.

Their grieving period was quite considerable and it was several years before they announced the arrival of their first daughter, Anastasia. The young orc took her appearance from her father (oddly enough) but took the class of her mother and became a warrior.

Unexpectedly, another ‘addition’ to the family soon arrived. It was in the form of a nephew that Elkyne knew nothing about. It took some explaining, but it eventually came clear that the young elf was in fact the son of Elkyne’s long lost sister-like friend, Kathryn. Kathryn had passed on and her son Danlo, had tracked down the dwarf his mother talked of.

Soon, as children do, Anastasia left her parents for a life elsewhere. Hard times were ahead for Elkyne and she would have only her long lost nephew, Danlo to help her through.

In his old age, Orion decided it was time to do something to be remembered by. He took up a position remodeling his beloved order building. Unfortunately, the stress associated with this led him to an untimely death. He committed suicide over the Ocean, and his body was left to the fishes.

Elkyne was devastated. She loved her husband dearly, but nothing could bring him back.

Once more, the years passed the now ageing dwarf by. She decided to train to become a builder and continue on the work of her late husband. Her first tutor was a rather hairy orcish Immortal by the name of Groo.

Elkyne learned quickly and once she had helped Groo finish off the city wall of New Atalia, she was able to fulfill her aim of completing the Fellowship Castle renovations.

She quite enjoyed building. It was something about taking a bare piece of the realm and turning it into something useful. Creating new life gave her great pleasure.

However, once the Fellowship renovations were complete, she took some time off. Some people say she went a little insane, others said she went completely insane. Either way, something had clicked within her. It could be attributed to delayed grief, but those who know her better, knew it was merely loneliness. This became apparent when she suddenly announced the birth of another child to, of all people, her late husband. Orion.

Another child? How could this be?

It took a fair bit of coaxing, but eventually Elkyne explained. She had heard of a mysterious wizard in a distant corner of the realm who could help widows have children to their deceased husbands. Desperately lonely, she had sought this wizard out. Lo and behold, Ozelumf, an adorable but hairy little dwarven girl was born.

Ozelumf was a resourceful young dwarf who showed knowledge beyond her years. Soon, she too was often off on voyages and exploring the realm, leaving her elderly mother alone to build.

It was about this time that Elkyne began to work with the Duergar dwarves to create a place in the realm for them.

For most of her life, Elkyne had been notable good willed. Now, however, she was beginning to corrupt. Many blame this transition on the Duergar.

Elkyne’s skills and knack for building were soon noticed by the powers that be. She had to make a choice. Remain mortal and face a limited life or take upon a new chapter and continue building into the future…
