PROFILE:
WILLIE ELBERT "BUD" EASTERWOOD & LUCINDA KATHERINE MOORE
Willie Elbert "Bud" Easterwood, was born 7 Aug 1865 in Calhoun Co, AL, the oldest child of John Robert (Jack) Easterwood, Sr and Mary Susan "Susie" Brown.  I have not been able to locate the family on the 1870, so the first record of the family is the 1880 US census when the family lived in the Peaks Hill area of Calhoun Co, AL.  Living nearby were Bud's Brown grandparents, Oakley and Catherine Brown.  They had moved to the area from the Kymulga, Talladega Co, AL area.  The 1860 and 1870 censuses record them living in Talladega Co, having moved to the area from the Union Co, SC area in the mid 1850's.
Jack Easterwood's family was also from the Union Co, SC area, although I have not been able to positively connect him with parents at this time.  It seems that all the Easterwood families that came to the Calhoun Co area were related and from that area.

Lucinda Katherine Moore was born 24 Nov 1872 in Etowah Co, AL, the oldest child of Sidney Marion Moore and Lydia Emily Metcalf.  She was probably born in the Southside/Green Valley area which was known as the "Phillips Enumeration District" for census purposes.  This area is near the area where Bud and his family lived in Calhoun Co.  Lucinda's father had been born in Cherokee Co and grew up in the Etowah Co area.  Her mother had been born in the area also and she had grown up in the Peaks Hill area.

Bud and Lucinda were married 5 Jan 1890 in Etowah Co, AL.

Bud Easterwood was a noted hunter, trapper, and fisherman in the Etowah, Calhoun, and St Clair County areas.  A local newspaperman wrote a column about Bud's exploits for THE GADSDEN TIMES in the 1940's.
(article)   He later worked for a local steel mill.

In about 1893, Jack Easterwood, Bud's father, and Bud's some of Bud's siblings decided to move to the wilds of Texas.  Bud and Lucinda didn't go with the family at first.
The 1900 US Census lists Bud, Lucinda, and family living in Kansas, Etowah Co, AL, an area that is now called Green Valley or Southside.
Shortly after 1900, Bud & Lucinda made the trip to the Fannin Co, TX area and joined other family members.  They didn't make it a permanent home, though.  They returned to the Etowah Co area in the fall of 1904.
By 1920, Bud, Lucinda and family are recorded living in Greensport, St Clair Co, AL, an area in Northern St Clair Co.
The 1930 US Census showed Lucinda still living in Greensport, St Clair Co, AL, but Bud was not shown living with the family.  Bud and Lucinda lived in separate households from the 1920's.  There was no divorce.  Lucinda, a staunch Baptist, would have never dreamed of such a thing.  From what I have been told, there wasn't a lot of bickering and fighting, they just went their separate ways.
Bud was enumerated in 1930, living in Riddles Bend, Etowah Co, AL.  My grandmother told me that he lived on a houseboat on Canoe Creek.  It was in this houseboat that Bud passed away 22 Feb 1939.  My grandmother told me that Bud always made a good fire in his pot bellied stove so that the children in the area who caught the school bus nearby could stay inside and keep warm.  On the morning of his death, the children arrived, finding no warming fire and Bud, on the floor of his home, deceased.
Bud was buried beside his mother at Ten Island Baptist Cemetery in Ohatchee, Calhoun Co, AL.
Lucinda purchased a large tract of land in Ball Play, Etowah Co, AL and she moved there after 1930. The article about Bud says that it was his property but Bud never lived there.  I suppose if people weren't close enough to the situation, they wouldn't have known.  After all, with Bud's work, hunting, fishing, and trapping, he was gone a good deal of the time anyway.
Lucinda lived out the remaining years of her life in Ball Play, dying there 28 Mar 1942.  She was buried near her parents at Pilgrams Rest Baptist Cemetery in Southside, Etowah Co, AL.
