Forbidden Knowledge pt 2
"What else was I to do Joseph?  If you would have been content to enjoy the earth I gave you and thank me once in a while things never would have ended up like this.  Do you know how many of my children die every day?  Do you know how close you are to destroying yourself now with the things you have made?  Was I to give you all the secrets of the universe and let you destroy everything I created?  So for every discovery you made, I made a new level of mystery."
"I don't understand."
"When you discovered the elements, I created atoms, when you discovered atoms, I created protons, electrons, and neutrons.  You were certainly never meant to get past that step.  But you did.  So I made quarks, gluons, neutrinos, things you haven't even discovered yet.  But your about to take the step to understand all I have created there, too."
"Then why don't you just stop me?  Reality bends to your will, kill me, make my Epiphany not work.  Why are you asking me to stop?"
"When I created you, I promised the first man, Adam as you call him, I would try to not interfere with his world. I told him I give this world to you to enjoy and do with it as you will.  I am but a watcher and I only work in the background.  Sure I make a miracle here and there, but I until now I have remained unseen."
"What about Jesus?"
"Well, yes that was me.  I had to visit.  I wanted to know that the life I gave you was one worth living."
"Was it?"
"I don't know.  Is it?"
"Perhaps, but why is there so much pain Lord?"
"That was your people's choice, never mine."
"Then why place us here with no explanation, no meaning, no purpose, doesn't that lead to pain?"
"Do you want me to decide for you what the meaning of your life is?  Does the painting you paint know why it exists?  Do the children you make know why they live?  I have always been here, or at least I think I have because I cannot tell you what was before me.  I have no explanation for myself, so I have none for you.  I chose to be what I am, and you must choose to be what you are."
"I chose to be a scientist, to discover the things you tell me I wasn't meant to."
"I am asking you to choose to be a savoir.  I am asking you to tell the world your machine doesn't work.  To go home in ridicule, to give up your love and determination, to take all of this upon yourself so that the universe will continue."
"But I have to know lord.  This is my life's work, I HAVE to see."
"Then look Joseph Cozan, but know that what you will see you must never try to explain and you must never share with anyone or all that I have done is in vane."
With those final words, God kissed Joseph's cheek, and walked back into the light.  Joseph watched the Lord leave still not believing that he had just experienced a conversation with God.  Then he turned back towards the Gluon beam focus.  He placed his hand upon it and brought into focus the world he was never meant to see.  What a sight it was.  Millions of particles, all being exchanged by other particles none of which science had a name for.  Joseph saw the basic building blocks of the universe in full action.  At this level the mysteries seemed to melt away.  He understood wave-particle duality, the uncertainty principal, and the evolution of the universe.  He stared for hours at the world on his screen, like a kid in a candy shop.
At 10:15 am, Joseph Cozan turned off his Epiphany machine and began to erase all of his computer drives.  He took apart the basic components of his machine, and burned all of his notes.  With tears on his cheeks and a smile on his face he walked to the board meeting. He could still hear the whispers of his peers.
This time, he didn't care.
