| | Tricks and Treats | |

Traditions - HAUNTED PLACES: Todd and Natasha tell Dawson the story of an actress who was murdered on the soundstage they are filming on and that some say she still haunts the building. Todd: "This is what I get for shooting on a bloody haunted soundstage the day before bloody Halloween." Dawson: "What do you mean haunted?"

Traditions - PARTIES: Dawson pretty much plans Todd's big Halloween bash which they have on set between filming dates. Todd: "Boy, eh, how's my party coming?" Dawson: "I'm pleased to announce the art department's turned stage 7 into a playground for the morally impaired."

Traditions - GHOSTS: Dawson and other crew members begin to see the dead actress Melanie Ray in the film dalies and around set.

Quip - Todd: "I love Halloween. My favorite holiday. Always has been." Dawson: "Yeah. Mine, too. Actually I'm kinda famous for playing these elaborate pranks on my friends back home."

Costumes - Audrey and Pacey dress up as the ill fated couple Sid Vicous and Nancy Spungen. Audrey: "Sid! Ooh, baby! You look awesome! But..." Pacey: "But what?" Audrey: "Well, don't shoot the messenger here, but if we're going for authenticity, leather pants would really do the trick."

Quip - Pacey: "Sorry. I'm just not really a costume party kind of guy." Audrey: "Seem to love putting on that little monkey suit of yours every morning."

Traditions - DECORATING: The film set is turned into a Halloween playground filled with tombstones, skulls, demons, electric chairs, cob webs, candles, coffins and lots of fog.

Traditions - MOVIES: Harley's dad tries to postpone their annual Halloween tradition of going to see a scary movie together so he can go on a date. Harley: "No. You're foregoing tradition, our tradition. To go out with some skank." Hetson: "A--she's not a bad kind of skank, and b--we'll go to the movies tomorrow night." Harley: "It's not the same! We go to the movies on Halloween. We go see some scary old movie at the crest. It's what we do."

Costumes - Jen dresses up as a gothic angel.

Costumes - Jack dresses as a sexy vampire boy.

Costumes - Emma is either going for an 80's costume look or possibly Kelly Osbourne.

Costumes - Dawson is either dresses as a Reservoir Dog or a Man in Black.

Costumes - Natasha is dressed in a sexy catholic school girl uniform. Dawson: "Hey. You--you look amazing. I'm sure you've probably heard that, like, 1,000 times." Natasha: "Yeah, I've gotten a couple marriage proposals and one guy said he'd sign over his car if I slept with him, but... thanks, it never gets old."

Costumes - Todd is dressed as a preist.

Quip - Joey: "Well, I was going to take you trick or treating, but that was when I thought you were 5. So I was thinking we could go to the movies or something. I heard you say something to your dad about wanting to see-" Harley: "That sounds lame. I want to stay here."

Traditions - HAUNTED PLACES: Eddie suggests Joey and Harley check out a haunted house and they invite him along. Eddie: "Hey, you know, I read about this haunted house in the paper today. It's supposed to be pretty scary." Harley: "I love haunted houses."

Quip - C.J.: "You could have told me it was a costume party." Jen: "Oh, my god. I'm so sorry." David: "I feel like such a dork."

Quip - Audrey: "Wow! I've died and gone to hell! Hail, Satan!"

Traditions - PRANKS: Todd and Natasha go all out to give Dawson a good scare by making him believe he is seeing the ghost of Melanie Ray around the set. As an added freak out, they also make him believe that the two of them have started a fling. Natasha: "Happy Halloween, Dawson. We've had the immense pleasure of screwing with your mind this evening."

Other costumes seen through the episode include - devils, demons, reapers, lots of goth, vampires, witches, angel, butterfly, fairy, french maid, bride, cowboy, cat, greaser, flapper and a pimp.

| | Dialogue To Die For | |

Jen: "I think that maybe the thing to do here, Jack, is to just crush from afar. That way there are no broken hearts, there are no dashed dreams, there are no morning-after pills to contend with."

Jen: "Oh, my god! I am like flypaper for the homosexual community."

Pacey: "That's not dancing. That's cavorting."
Audrey: "Oh, when did you become such a dull normal?"

Eddie: "You gave us quite a scare tonight, young lady."
Joey: "Oh, don't be cute with her. She doesn't deserve cute."

Harley: "Sorry I was such an uber-bitch."
Joey: "We all have our moments."

| | Dialogue To Bury | |

Okay, so I know it is supposed to be a cheesy movie, but come on.
Guy: "Hey... you sure about this?"
Natasha: "As sure as I've ever been about anything in my entire life."
Guy: "Groovy."

Joey: "Shut up and make yourself useful. Now, if you were a bratty teenage girl, where would you disappear off to?"
Eddie: "Oh, listen, if I was a teenage girl, bratty or otherwise, I would never leave the house. I'd be too busy checking myself out."
Joey: "Classy. And I'll thank you for that image."

| | Pop! Goes the Culture | |

Episode: Title - Living Dead Girl
Living Dead Girl is the title of an awesome Rob Zombie song from his 1998 album, Hellbilly Delux.

Prop: Movie Set - Kiss Blanket on Wall
KISS is a heavy metal band that became famous in the mid- to late 1970s. Although the heavy metal music genre didn't exist when the band was formed in 1972, it said that they invented a big part of the sound and style which now define heavy metal. They are most commonly known for their elaborate costumes and stage sets. Until 1983 the boys never appeared in public without their infamous make-up, when they finally revealed their true faces a lot of people were disapointed. In the mid 1990s they donned their made-up personas again when they began touring as a 1970s nostalgia act.

Prop: Movie Set - Led Zepplin Poster on Wall
Led Zeppelin is the famous British rock band who helped define and transcend the then-emerging heavy metal sub-genere of music. They are known for their innovative approach to blues-rock and are one of the most popular and influential bands of their time.

Todd: "Melanie Ray was the Jamie Lee Curtis of her day. The original scream queen."
Jamie Lee Curtis has earned the nickname 'The Scream Queen' due to her many starring roles in horror films just as her career began. Her credits include Halloween, Halloween II, The Fog, Terror Train and Prom Night. In 1998 she reprised her role as Laurie Strode in Halloween: H20 as well as in 2002's Halloween: Ressurrection.

Natasha: "Uh, Kiss the Girls and Make them Die. "
Kiss the Girls and Make Them Die is the 1967 American title for the 1966 Italian film 'Se tuttle le donne del mondo'.

Todd: "Good for you, Gilligan. "
Gilligan as well as the skipper too, a millionaire and his wife, a movie star, the professor and Mary Ann were all characters who were stranded together on the popular TV show Gilligan's Island which ran from 1964-1967.

Prop: Audrey's Jacket - Logo on Back, KMFDM
KMFDM is a German electronic music band in the industrial music genere. The band was founded in Paris in 1984 and KMFDM is said to stand for kein Mitleid fur die mehrheit or "no pity for the majority". Their lyrics are generally regarding the rejection of and resistance against incompetent rule in capitalist society.

Pacey: "Frankly, it's a miracle that I'm even going along with this whole Sid and Nancy thing."
Sid Vicious was an English punk rock musician and bass player for the Sex Pistols. In 1977 he met and fell in love with American Nancy Spungen. During their 21 month relationship the two abused heroin and other drugs and had many reports of domestic violence. Nancy's unpleasant personality and Sid's emotional dependence on her contributed to the band splitting. On October 12th of 1978 Spungen, 20, was found with a stab wound to the abdomen that was traced to Vicious'knife. He claimed he awoke from a drug induced stupor and found her that way with no memory of the previous night's events. Vicious was arrested but died four months later at the age of 22 while out on bail from an overdose. Their twisted relationship was the basis of the 1986 film Sid and Nancy starring Gary Oldman and Chloe Webb.

Character: Jack's Costume - Vampire
This is a nod to the 2001 vampire flick that Kerr Smith's starred in, The Forsaken. It is about a guy named Sean (Kerr) who is driving across the country and picks up a hitchhiker named Nick (played by Brendan Fehr) who is a vampire hunter. They start tracking a group of young vampires who feed on unwary travelers. They happen upon a girl, Megan (Isabella Miko) who has been left for dead by the vampires and Sean himself becomes infected with the vampire virus. They then must kill the vampire leader (Jonathan Schaech) to stop the madness.

C.J.: "Well, if... going back to my room and watching Halloween H20 on cable qualifies as plans, then yeah. I'm all booked up."
This is a cute nod to Halloween H20: 20 Years Later which starred Dawson's Creek's own Michelle Williams along with Jamie Lee Curtis, Josh Hartnet and Adam Arkin. Michelle played the girlfriend of John who is the son of Michael Myes sister, Laurie Strode.

Character: Costume - Dawson is dressed either as a Reservoir Dog or a Man in Black.
Reservoir Dogs is the 1992 film filled with crim, blood and gore starring Harvey Keitel, Michael Madsen, Tim Roth, Steve Buscemi and Quentin Tarantino.

Men in Black is the 1997 film about two agents (played by Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones) of a top secret organization who monitor and police the alien activity on Earth.

Episode: Scene - Fright Night is the Film Showing at the Theater
Fright Night is the 1985 horror comedy film written and directed by Tom Holland about a horror film buff named Charlie who believes his new neighbors are vampires. Believing he's the only one who can help, Charlie tracks down the washed-up actor who hosts his favorite TV show, Fright Night.

| | Goofs, Gaffes and Nitpicks | |

Todd: "Oh, excellent. I love Halloween. My favorite holiday. Always has been." Dawson: "Yeah. Mine, too. Actually I'm kinda famous for playing these elaborate pranks on my friends back home." This is the first and last Halloween episode they ever did for Dawson's Creek, in season one they did a scary themed episode for friday the 13th and where they established Dawson's penchant for pranks but they never did another Halloween episode where they showcased his "infamous" pranking skills.

I have never in my life been to a haunted house where you can wander around aimlessly, touch the props and have time to sit and talk.

Two of the girls who were seen a lot in the background at the set party are seen at the movie theater ticket stand when Joey and Eddie are looking for Harley. When it's finally revealed that Natasha was the one masquerading as Melanie Ray, she takes off the blonde wig and her hair is down. If she had to keep taking down her pig tails each time she put on the wig (which she would have had to because they wouldn't fit under it) there was feasibly no time for her to be back to normal so quickly in between changes.

| | Misc Notes | |

This episode's orignal title was Halloweenie.

The editor is portrayed by the show's real life editor, Daniel Valverde.

Bianca Kajlich is not able to scream. Her screams had to be dubbed for her scenes in Halloween: Resurrection.

A cute little fact I thought you might like to know is that the literal translation of James Van Der Beek's dutch last name means 'from the creek'.

This episode begins and ends with the same dialogue.
