When Maggie's first tooth is a fang and when she looses her legs which are replaced by tentacles, Marge confesses that the alien, Kang, is Maggie's real father. To settle the dispute on what's best for Maggie's future, the Simpson's as well as Kang, go on The Jerry Springer Show.

| | Dialogue To Die For | |

Brockman (grave): "...and the fluffy kitten played with that ball of string all through the night. (Brightens) On a lighter note, a Kwik-E-Mart clerk was brutally murdered last night."

Chief Wiggum: "Homer Simpson, you're under arrest for the murders of Moe Szyslak and Apu Nahasa...pasa...Aw, just Moe. Just Moe."

Homer: "Oooh, how are Bart and Lisa gonna get out of this one?

Marge: "Aw, somebody's in love." [picks up Scratchy] "That means you'll have to be neutered."

Homer: "Look Marge, Maggie lost her baby legs."

Homer: "Is there anything you can prescribe, doctor?"
Hibbert: "Fire -- and lots of it!"
Marge: "Oh, that's your cure for everything."

Homer: [opens door to find Kang and Kodos standing there] "Hello -- oh great. Mormons."

Kang: "Congratulations. You have been selected for our cross-breeding program."
Kodos: "To put you at ease, we have recreated the most common spawning locations of your species. You may choose either [as Kodos lists the choices, he highlights a mock-up of each one] the back seat of a Camaro, an airplane bathroom, a friend's wedding, or the alley behind a porno theater."
Marge: "I absolutely refuse to go along with this...but since I have no choice, I'll take the alley."

Marge: "Really? That seemed awfully quick."
Kang: "What are you implying?"
Marge: "Nothing, nothing."
Kang: "Whoa, wow, look at the time. I'd love to stay but I have an early meeting tomorrow. You're a super girl, though. I'll call you sometime."

Homer: "You intergalactic hussy! How could you!" [covers his face and cries, then looks up] "Was he better than me?"

Marge: "I'm so f-[bleep]-ng embarrassed."

| | Dialogue To Bury | |

Wiggum: "Now that's what I call a bad hair day."
[Everyone but Marge laughs]
Marge: "May I remind you that two people are dead and ... oh, wait, I just got it."

Episode: Music - As Chief Wiggum enters the Kwik-E-Mart
The cheesy music sounds a lot like the music from the 1984-1989 TV series Miami Vice starring Don Johnson and Philip Michael Thomas.

Ed McMahon: "Tonight on Fox, from the producers of 'When Skirts Fall Off', and 'Secrets of National Security Revealed', it's, 'World's Deadliest Executions'."
This parodies specials that Fox has run, such as disaster specials 'When [insert disaster here] Happens' or 'World's Deadliest [you get the point]' about tornado's, police chases, etc. and their other specials about exposing magic secrets in 'Secrets of Magic Revealed'.

Ed McMahon: "Making his first appearance on our show, heeeere's Snake!"
This mimic's Ed McMahon's famous line from The Tonight Show "Heeeeeeere's Johnny". The Tonight Show is NBC's late night talk/variety show, it is the longest-running entertainment program in American television history.

Marge: "Wow. If your fly weren't open, you'd look just like Roger Moore."

A 1986 episode of Amazing Stories (which was created and produced by Steven Spielberg) also had the title of 'Hell Toupee' and was about a toupee made from the hair of a french murderer who uses it's wearers to go on a killing spree.

Apu: "Snake? But you're dead!" Homer: "I know you are, but what am I?"
This is one of Paul Reuben's many infamous catch phrases as Pee-Wee Herman from his children's show, Pee-Wee's Playhouse that aired on CBS from 1986-1991.

Homer: "It's Hammer time, snitchy."
"Hammer Time" is a lyric from MC Hammer's famous 1990 smash hit, 'U Can't Touch This'. It is also a quote that is synonymous with the singer as it was a tagline he used many times.

Episode: Scene - Maggie picks up Snake's toupee, holds it over her shoulder and sucks her thumb.
This pose is much like that of Linus from the Peanut's comic strip who holds his blanket over his shoulder and sucks his thumb. In fact, Linus is the one who coined the term "security blanket".

Episode: Act II Title - Terror of Tiny Toon
This title parodies the title of the 1938 film, The Terror of Tiny Town directed by Sam Newfield about an evil gunslinging midget who comes to terrorize the good people of Tiny Town.

The Purple Rose of Cairo is a 1985 film directed and written by Woody Allen starring Mia Farrow and Jeff Daniels. It is about a film character who walks off the theater screen and into the real world.
Another Jeff Daniels movie, 1998's Pleasantville is about a brother and sister who are sucked into their TV right to a 1950's black and white sitcom where everything is seemingly perfect. It also stars Tobey Maguire, Reece Witherspoon, William H. Macy and Joan Allen.
1992's Stay Tuned directed by Peter Hyams, starring John Ritter is about a couch potato named Roy who unknowingly sells his soul to the devil for a satellite system. Roy and his wife wind up getting sucking into the system and are trapped in the cable TV version of hell.
In segment three of the Twilight Zone's 1983 movie, Nancy Cartwright plays a little girl named Ethel who gets sucked into a very violent cartoon.

Episode: Scene - Title of the Itchy & Scratchy Episode, Candle in the Wound
This is a spoof of Candle in the Wind which is Elton John's 1973 song about Marilyn Monroe and 1997 re-write in remembrance of Princess Diana. This song is the best-selling single of all time.

Episode: Scene - Homer changes the channel to 'Live with Regis & Kathie Lee'
When Homer switches networks, Lisa and Bart along with Itchy and Scratchy drop into an episode of Live with Regis and Kathie Lee which ran from 1989 to 2000 when Kathie Lee Gifford left the show. Regis now hosts with Kelly Ripa. While Regis is more known for the talk show circuit, Kathie Lee is known for being Frank Gifford's wife, Carnival Cruise Line and sweatshop made clothes.

Kathie Lee: "That's it! I'm going home! Dom DeLouise can interview himself."
Dom Deluise starred in the films Blazing Saddles (1974), Cannonball Run (1981) and Spaceballs (1987). He was also the host of the TV show Candid Camera from 1991 to 1992.

Episode: Act III Title - Starship Poopers
This title and the logo for it is a spoof on Starship Troppers, the 1997 movie starring Casper Van Dien, Dina Myer and Denise Richards. Its about a futuristic battle between alien bugs and humans.

Homer: "This little piggie went to Kwik-E-Mart, this little piggie went nuts, this little piggie went surfing and this little piggie went--oohhh, Marge! Maggie lost her baby legs!"
This is a Homerized variation of a classic nursery rhyme. It's exact origins are unknown but it was first published in 1728. The most common lyrics are:
This Little Piggy went to market
This Little Piggy stayed at home
This Little Piggy had roast beef
This Little Piggy had none
and This Little Piggy went wee wee wee all the way home!

Episode: Plot - An alien is actually Maggie's real father.
The TV series Soap also had a plot with this theme. That show ran from 1977-1981.
The 1993-2002 sci-fi hit series The X-Files also delt with aliens fathering babies.
The 1998 movie, My Stepmothter is an Alien aslo delt with parental alien issues. This film was directed by Richard Benjamin and the cast included Dan Aykroyd, Kim Basinger, John Lovitz, Alyson Hannigan and Seth Green.

Episode: Scene - Marge knits a baby jumper with tentacle legs.
There is also a scene towards the end of the 1991 Addams Family movie where Morticia Addams (played by Anjelica Huston) knits a tentacle legged baby outfit.

TV Announcer: "We'll return with 'How Dracula Got His Groove Back'..."
This parodies the title of the 1998 film, How Stella Got Her Groove Back which stars Angela Bassett, Taye Diggs and Whoopi Goldberg and was directed by Kevin Rodney Suliivan.

Alien Ship Announcer: "Warning! Warning! Prepare to be abducted!"
This is spoken in a similar tone as the robot from the Lost in Space TV series (1965-1968) and the 1998 movie. His famous line is "Danger, Robinson family, Danger!"

Kang: "And now she must return home to Rigel 7, where she will be guaranteed a lucrative civil service job-for life."
Rigel 7 is a planet in the Star Trek universe.

Jerry Springer: "Homer, how'd it feel to learn your baby was fathered by a drooling space octopus?"
The Simpsons family and the aliens appear on the controversial day time talk show, The Jerry Springer show, topic: My Daddy's a Space Monster! Since the show first aired in 1991, it has progressively gotten trashier and each week the guests stories seem to get more and more scandalous. They are also famous for their knock down drag out fights which they have to censor carefully now and they notorious for nudity-not that anyone would ever want to see the majority of these people naked.

Jerry Springer: "Now hold on Kang, you can't bully my audience with your fancy ray gun."
Once in the comic strip Ernie an alien character went on Jerry's show and zapped him as well as his audience. This comic strip was created by B. Grace and is now called Piranha Club.
Aliens also zap an entire audience in the all star 1996 movie Mars Attacks directed by Tim Burton and featuring Jack Nicholson, Sarah Jessica Parker, Pierce Brosnan, Natalie Portman Glenn Close, Annette Benning, Danny Devito and Martin Short.

Bart: "Don't forget Ken Starr!"
Ken Starr is a lawyer and former judge who was appointed to the Office of the Independent Counsel to investigate the Whitewater land transactions by President Clinton and later the Monica Lewinsky scandal. In early 2004 he was appointed dean of Pepperdine university's School of Law.

| | Goofs, Gaffes and Nitpicks | |

Electrocution would have destroyed the organs of Snake's that were used for transplants. Plus, electrocution victims must have their heads shaved before heading to the chair.

The screwed up papers (one brown, one white) beside Bart's waste paper basket "magically" swap places.

When Homer is trying to kill Bart, he breaks open the door, later on, the door is normal again, then broken, then normal ...

Maggie's "baggie" turned from blue to white between the time Homer entered Bart's room and when Marge did.

In Terror of Tiny Toon, on various shots Marge's dress changes shades of green drastically.

Lisa and Bart would rather stay home and watch Itchy and Scratchy than go trick-or-treating?

Homer's "tulebox" disappears after Bart gets the plutonium piece.

Homer goes from his grungy hobo attire to suddenly wearing his regular clothes and being clean shaven.

Regis exclaims "My eyes, my beautiful eyes!" However, we see that the soup comes nowhere near his eyes.

Bart pulls the marker out of nowhere.

The blood that splatters on Bart and Lisa disappears in the next shot.

Bart's shirt changes green for a minute.

Lisa has no nose at one point.

Television remote controls do not have a "exit" button.

Homer and Marge are disproportionate to each other at the end of Terror of Tiny Toon.

Jerry Springer's voice says "ladies and Gentlemen, meet KANG," but his animated mouth obviously says, "KODOS".

The line about Ken Star was obviously added after animation.

| | Creep Show | |

Robert Englund, as you know, plays Freddy Krueger in the Nightmare on Elm St. and Freddy Vs. Jason films. He has also been in Urban Legend (1998), Wishmaster (1997), The Mangler (1995) and many other horror and thriller films.

Pirate Hank Azaria Mad Hatter Danny Elfman

| | Misc Notes | |

Blackboard: Bart paints "Treehouse of Horror IX" on the blackboard with a blood-soaked brush. He keeps his blood refills in a plastic jack-o-lantern bucket normally reserved for Halloween treats.
Garage: Bart slips on his skateboard and breaks his neck, Lisa drives into Bart on her bike and is thrown off into the wall where she gets stuck. Then Marge and Maggie drive Homer into the wall, killing him.
Couch: Freddy and Jason are sitting there asking themselves where the Simpsons are then they turn the tv on.

The original version of 'Hell Toupée' had Troy McClure host Snake's execution, but due to the untimely death of Phil Hartman who provided the voice of McClure, the sequence was redone and Ed McMahon became the replacement. The Troy McClure version has never been aired on TV.

Things Itchy & Scratchy shot out of their cannon: Inanimate carbon rod, Four knives, Axe, Two arrows, Rocket, Bomb, Chattering teeth, Stick of dynamite and a Gun.

Watch the silly shadowing when Bart and Lisa jump into the police car.

In the original script for 'Starship Poopers', Homer uses an on-screen menu and Lisa tells him to push Exit. That menu was never animated, which is why the nonexistent exit button was added to the remote.
