The Legend: A costumed party-goer shows up at the wrong house and is shot to death due to the home owner mistaking them for an intruder.

Fact or Fiction?: Fact.

On October 31st of 1992, a Japanese exchange student named Yoshihiro Hattori went into the wrong house on the way to a Halloween party. The homeowner's wife screamed for help and the homeowner drew his .44 pistol and yelled for the student to 'freeze!' Not understanding that it means 'Don't move or I'll shoot', the student continued walking towards the man. The homeowner then pulled the trigger and shot him in the chest, Hattori died on the spot. In his memory there is now the Hattori Memorial Scholarship in which one outstanding American student who shows a strong desire to learn about Japanese culture through immersion will win each year.

Below is a story reported by the BBC News with a less tragic ending.

Eminem Impersonator Causes Panic
A chainsaw wielding Eminem impersonator caused panic when he decided to make a dramatic entrance to a fancy dress party - but got the wrong address.

Police were alerted after a terrified Lincoln resident answered the door to the reveller - who was brandishing the roaring power tool and wearing ski goggles and salopettes.

Officers arrived at the address in Atwater Close, Lincoln, at 2130 BST on Saturday to find that the man had gone.

They discovered he been intent on making a memorable entrance to the soiree and had skulked off into the night after realising his mistake.

A Lincolnshire Police spokesman said: "The poor occupant was clearly frightened out of his skin.

"The guy turned up at the door with the chainsaw running and must have looked terrifying.

"Luckily he had simply gone to the wrong door.

"It must have been rather embarrassing for him."
