TRIGONOMETRY

What is trigonometry? Why should I learn it? Is it harder than algebra? These are all questions students of trigonometry often ask themselves assuming they ask themselves questions at all.

Trigonometry derives from Greek words meaning "the measurement of triangles."

In its modern form it makes use of concepts from algebra & analysis.Initially, it involved the mathematics of practical problems, such as construction & land measurement, it has since been extended to the geometry of 3-dimensional spaces in the form of spherical trigonometry.

Trigonometric concepts are used to minimize the amount of measuring involved. These concepts depend on the concepts of enlargement & similarity.

Trigonometry uses the fact that ratios of pairs of sides of triangles are functions of the angles.

The reduction formulas in trigonometry are identities that express trigonometric ratios of any angle in terms of ratios of acute angles.Apart from their use in simplifying trigonometric problems, trigonometric identities are often used in algebra & calculus.
