Quick History – the start of the band

           They were originally a 3 man band from San Diego, CA. The guys of Switchfoot are known for putting out some of the most clever, energetic, and creative music in the modern Christian music scene. Switchfoot is made up of brothers Tim and Jon Foreman, Chad Butler, and the band’s newest member, Jerome Fontamillas. The band was first formed in 1996 when high school classmates (and water polo teammates), Jon and Chad who were each playing in different bands, decided to join together and create one of their own. The rest is history.

        How they started out ::

      Switchfoot first started out as a local band playing in coffee shops, colleges, churches, and clubs. When their demo tape fell into the hands of producer Charlie Peacock, the band was on their way. Two months after they’d received his message on their answering machine, Switchfoot began recording their first album, The Legend of Chin. Since then, the band has released two more albums, New Way To Be Human and Learning To Breathe, had music featured in shows such as Party of Five, Popular, and Dawson’s Creek, and are well recognized in the world of Christian Rock. They are more than just your everyday rock band. Switchfoot’s combination of great music with meaningful lyrics dedicated to their Creator is the perfect formula to bring them to the top.

       Behind the name ::

         The band first toyed with names in honor of their good friend Willis Chin. After debating over such names as ‘Chin Up’ and ‘Ode To Chin’, they finally decided on ‘Switchfoot.’ Switchfoot is a surf term describing a 180-degree turn jump on the board, which gives the surfer a new perspective. With the original three members’ history in surfing, and their unique style of music, the name seemed to fit just right.
