Justin Murphy played for Brothers, who were then the Broncos feeder club, in the 1998 Qld Cup, scoring 24 tries in the 22 preliminary rounds plus a further 2 in the semis for a total of 26. He was second top try scorer behind Geoge Wilson of Redcliffe. who scored 26 on the regular season plus a further 2 during the semis as well.

Murphy's best individual return was 4 tries against Souths in Round 13, and he grabbed a hat-trick against Central in Round 8.

Brothers finished 2nd on the table that year, but lost their 3 finals in the the Top 6 format to finish in 4th place
