Famous lines
Will in the millroom with Henry:

"I'm not going to let them cap me Henry. I'm not afraid of the capping itself, but what I'll become once it's done. It's wrong Henry. You've seen Jack since haven't you?
I'm old enough to think for myself now. I like that, I want that! There's a lot of things I want to do and find out about, but in twelve months it'll be too late. All I'll be is a puppet for the Tripods, for the rest of my life. Henry please I've got to go!"

Julius' speech: (edit)

"My friends. Young men, young women. I know that you must often wonder at your life in the white mountains. You came here in great risk, to destroy the Tripods. And all we teach you are skills which must seem to you irrelevant. Instead of combat we coach you to a high level of achievment in certain sports. And you must wonder why.
This is a rough model of the city of the Tripods, the city of gold. This city lies a weeks journey to the north, and within the year some of you will enter it. Each year in the annual games held nearby young people are chosen to serve the tripods in their city. Some are chosen for their beauty, others for their strength and speed. We believe that within this city only the young and strong can survive. Does your daily sports routine now make sense?
We shall send competitors to the next games highly trained in the hope that they maybe selected to serve the Tripods in their city. They must gather the information we so badly need to destroy these monstrous hives of cruelty and domination. We elders cannot do this. It is upon a handful of you here today, that mans freedom now depends. It's a heavy task we lay on you. We dare to hope that you maybe successful.
One of the rights of free thinking uncapped humans is freedom of choice. I ask you to exercise that right now. Stand... if you are willing to be selected for the next annual games... and entry into the Tripods city."

Webmasters note: This is by far my favourite dialogue in the Tripods series, it just grabs you when you hear Julius speak.

Village Elder's speech: (edit)

"Dear friends. We are here today to give thanks to the Tripods. Who for over a hundred years have brought peace and tranquility to our world. Through the miracle of the cap, which is given to us all as we cross into adult life. The violence of our emotions is held in check, and all youthful thoughts of rebellion are taken away.
Today the Tripod comes amongst us once again. We give thanks for this great gift, and pray that through it our sons and daughters may know the joy of lifelong peace!"

Games Captain's opening speech:

"Friends. Fellow officials. Competing athletes and spectators all. All of us loyal servants of the Tripods. May I say welcome to the annual games.
And may I ask you all to observe reberend silence for the arrival of those in whose honor we owe the games. Our masters... The Tripods!
(pause)
May I remind you all that the highest honor, of which thee thy young men and women who are competing here, is the pride of being chosen to serve the Tripods in their fabulous city of gold. So masters I call upon you now to do us the honor of opening these games. Which we owe... to honor you!"
