WWE SummerSlam Report: 8/25/02

Summer Slam Opener:
Summer Slam kicked it off in the arena with a huge bang and Michael Cole and Tazz kicked it off on commentary from ringside!
Rey Mysterio vs. Kurt Angle
Kurt Angle's music hit in the arena and he made his way out to the ring as the fans sang along to his song, "You suck, you suck!"
Kurt waited for Rey to come out but he was surprised from behind with a springboard reverse head scissors to take Kurt down by Rey Mysterio!
Kurt Angle went for a German suplex but Rey countered it and Kurt quickly went for the ankle of Rey and he got it on but Rey was quick to get to the ropes.
Rey went for the 619 but Kurt ducked it and then he pulled Rey right out of the ring to the arena floor.
Kurt Angle nailed Rey with a vicious German suplex and he went for another one but Rey held onto the ropes and then he rolled Kurt up in a pin for a two count.
Kurt Angle put Rey Mysterio in a half crab to work on the lower back and leg of Rey Mysterio and the crowd rumbled for Rey to get out of it and Rey countered with a small package for a two count.
Kurt went for the Angle slam but Rey countered it into an arm drag to take Kurt down. Kurt then charged at Rey but Rey pulled the ropes down and Kurt went flying right over the top rope to the outside of the ring.
Kurt tried to get back in the ring but Rey nailed him and then Rey went for a flying move over the top rope but the referee stopped him to boos and then Rey flew right over the top of the referee onto Kurt Angle on the outside of the ring!
Rey then rolled Kurt back into the ring and he brought himself back into the ring with a springboard leg drop and a pin for a two count.
Kurt got Rey on his back and he slammed him down to the mat and then he put the ankle lock on him but Rey got out of it and then he nailed Kurt with the 619 and then the hurricanrana pin for a two count!
Rey knocked Kurt down with a spinning heel kick and then he went to the top rope and came off with a flip as Kurt hopped up to the top rope and then Rey kicked Kurt in the chin as he sat on the top rope. Rey then climbed up to the top rope with Kurt Angle and then he gave him a spinning hurricanrana but Kurt hopped off it and countered it into the ankle lock to force Rey Mysterio to tap out!

Backstage:
Stephanie was shown with a tech guy and she was talking about Smackdown! being the superior brand. Stephanie told the guy to tell Eric Bischoff to try to top that match! Stephanie then went into her office only to find Eric Bischoff sitting right there.
Stephanie asked Eric what the hell he is doing there and Eric told Stephanie that this was the only office for the General Manager, so why not share the office? Stephanie said that since it is Summer Slam and both RAW and Smackdown! are here, she'd like to see the look on his face as he watches Smackdown! reign supreme. Eric told Stephanie to get a pen and paper and to take some notes...
Ric Flair vs. Chris Jericho
Chris Jericho's music blasted in the arena and he made his way out for his one on one match against the Nature Boy Ric Flair!
The two locked it up in the enter of the ring and Chris backed Ric into the corner and then he shoved him but Ric slapped Chris right across the face.
Chris Jericho and Ric Flair brawled to the outside of the ring and Chris exposed the security wall and then he slammed him into it. Chris then went to the top rope and came off the top with a hard shot to the back of the head as Flair's head was on the exposed security wall.
Chris Jericho pulled off his wrist tape and choked Flair with it as the referee was attempting to fix the turnbuckle that was loosened up by Jericho.
Chris Jericho gave Ric Flair a suplex and then he went to the top rope and in a spot that we usually see Flair caught in, Flair pulled Jericho down from the top rope and sent him sailing towards the middle of the ring.
Flair went for a suplex but Chris countered it and then he went for the Walls of Jericho but Flair wasn't having it as he rolled Jericho up in a small package for a two count!
Chris went for the lionsault but Flair rolled out of the way and nailed Chris with a number of hard chops and then he went for a Walls of Jericho of his own but then he went for a half crab but Jericho countered it into a figure four leg lock!
Ric Flair eventually got to the ropes but at the same time, he tapped out but since he grabbed the ropes first, the referee continued the match.
Ric Flair chopped Chris Jericho and Chris poked the referee in the eye when he went back and that allowed Flair to give Chris a low blow and then he put Y2J in the figure four and Chris Jericho tapped out, giving the win to the Nature Boy Ric Flair!

Backstage:
Brock Lesnar and Paul Heyman were shown backstage and Paul was talking about the video clip of Hulk Hogan's new DVD. Why do they release stuff like that? Because his career is dead and dead at the hands of Brock Lesnar and tonight, it's the same with The Rock. Brock has to take out The Rock and murder his title reign. Paul continued to pump up Brock and Brock's response was an evil laugh.
Edge vs. Eddie Guerrero
Eddie Guerrero made his way out to the ring for his one on one match against Edge!
Edge and Eddie locked it up and Eddie went behind Edge with a hammer lock and then Edge gave Eddie an elbow to the head and a whip off the ropes into a flap jack.
Edge went for a spear against the ropes but Eddie moved out of the way and Edge went sailing to the arena floor and Edge looked to have jammed his arm on the way down. The referee attempted to check on Edge but Eddie refused to let him and he went right to work on the right shoulder of Edge which is the very same shoulder Edge injured not too long ago in his match against Kurt Angle.
Eddie grabbed Edge's arm and then he hopped to the top rope and jumped off with a big time arm bar take down to continue to work on his left arm.
Edge gave Eddie a back body drop over the top rope to the arena floor and then he went to the top rope and came off with a plancha onto Eddie on the outside and that may have further injured the shoulder of Edge.
Eddie went for a super hurricanrana but Edge countered it with a face first suplex on Eddie and then he pinned him but only got a two count.
Edge went for the spear on Eddie but Eddie gave Edge a drop kick to the shoulder to knock him down. Eddie then went to the top rope and came off with the frog splash but Edge got his knees up into the mid section of Guerrero.
Edge then planted Eddie with the DDT and then he pinned him for only a two count!
Edge went for the DDT again, but Eddie countered it into a northern lights suplex for a two count.
Eddie then gave Edge a neck breaker and he headed to the top rope once again for the frog splash but Edge was able to get up and he climbed the ropes but Eddie gave Edge a number of head butts to knock him down. Eddie then gave Edge the frog splash right to the left arm and then he pinned him but somehow Edge was able to kick out of it!
Eddie once again went to the top rope while holding Edge's arm but Edge pulled him down and then he speared him and pinned him for the three count to pick up the win!

Backstage:
The Coach was shown with the Un-Americans and in just a few moments, they're up against Booker T and Goldust. Christian said they can't wait. They can't wait to expose Booker T and Goldust for the American shams they are. The only problem is that they have to do it here in Long Island. Lance said they've performed in cities all over the country and this Long Island crowd typifies American audiences. They're lazy, unresponsive and spoiled. Christian said that they'll all be sitting on their hands as he and Lance perform at a world class level because just like greedy Americans, they want more. If they want more, they'll get more, but more of the Un-Americans as the Tag Team Champions!
World Wrestling Entertainment Tag Team Championship Match
Goldust and Booker T vs. Lance Storm and Christian (c)
Booker T's music hit in the arena and he and Goldust made their way out to a huge pop and they are up against Lance Storm and Christian in this Tag Team Title match!
Christian started it off in the ring against Goldust and Christian gave him a shot to the mid section and then he followed it up with a number of right hands. Storm quickly got in the ring but Goldust gave him a power slam to take care of him.
Goldust made a tag to Booker T that the referee apparently didn't see so he sent Booker out of the ring as Storm and Christian double teamed Goldust.
Goldust later went for the tag but Lance Storm pulled Booker T down from the ring apron and by the time Goldust got there, Booker T was chasing after Storm.
As the referee argued with Booker T, Storm and Christian went for the Conchairto on Goldust but he ducked it and both chairs went crashing together and all three fell down to the mat as the fans chanted "USA, USA" to get momentum behind Goldust and Booker T, the two big American Texans!
Booker T eventually got the tag and he got in there like a house of fire against Christian and he went to the top rope and came off with a missile drop kick and he pinned Christian as Goldust knocked Lance Storm to the outside of the ring. Booker T pinned Christian but he only got a two count.
Booker T went for the scissors kick but Christian ducked it and went for the Unprettier but Booker got out of it and gave Christian a flap jack. After that, Storm got in the ring and went for a heel kick on Booker but he ducked and the referee was nailed and he went down.
Booker T then nailed both Christian and Lance Storm with the scissors kick at the same time and then he performed the spinaroonie to a huge pop! Booker T knocked Christian down with a side kick and the fans counted the pin to 7 as the referee was down.
Lance Storm went to use the tag team title but Goldust stopped him and then Test got in the ring and nailed Booker T with the big boot and then Christian pinned Booker T for the three count to get the win to retain the titles!
Winners and still WWE Tag Team Champions, the Un-Americans
The World:
A shot of The World was shown and there is a contest going on there where the winner will make out with Nidia! Nidia picked a guy and jumped him on the couch on the stage at The World as Stephanie and Eric looked on from their office. Eric commented that Nidia would make a fine addition to RAW. This is a woman who really knows her place in this business. Stephanie said that women in this business are places like hers... on top. Eric said speaking of on top, we'll see who's on top later in the show when we see RVD bring the Intercontinental Title back to RAW. Stephanie said that we can safely say that will NEVER happen!
World Wrestling Entertainment Intercontinental Championship Match
Rob Van Dam vs. Chris Benoit (c)
Chris Benoit's music hit in the arena and he made his way out to the ring as the Intercontinental Champion, representing Smackdown! for his title defense against RAW's own Rob Van Dam!
Rob Van Dam gave Chris Benoit a hard kick to the leg to start it off and then Benoit went to slap Rob across the face after they teased a test of strength but he missed. Rob then kicked Chris a number of times in the mid section and Chris bailed out of the ring to catch his breath.
Chris Benoit gave Rob Van Dam a German release suplex that looked to have broken Rob Van Dam's neck. (Typical Van Dam, taking a NASTY neck bump...)
Rob Van Dam went for the split legged moonsault but Chris Benoit got his knees up into the gut of RVD.
Chris then headed to the top rope and went for the headbutt but Rob Van Dam sat up to avoid the move and then he gave Benoit a leg drop.
Rob hopped to the top rope for the Five Star but Benoit rolled out of the way to avoid the move.
Chris Benoit then put the Crippler Crossface on Rob Van Dam but Rob was able to get out of it.
Eric Bischoff and Stephanie were shown in the General Manager office looking on and each were cheering on their representative.
Rob Van Dam hopped to the top rope for a kick to the chest but Benoit knocked Rob to the outside of the ring and it looked as if Rob hit his arm on the way down on the security wall.
Rob Van Dam swept Chris off his feet and then he went for the cartwheel version of the rolling thunder but Chris Benoit moved out of the way and then he locked Rob in the Crippler Crossface once again and Rob was able to break it up once again. Chris rolled Rob up out of it into a pin but only got a two count.
Later on, Chris got Rob in the Crossface for a third time and Rob was once again able to break it but Chris held onto the move and got Rob in a dragon sleeper. Rob powered out of that and put Chris Benoit in a Crippler Crossface of his own but Chris quickly broke it up.
Rob knocked Chris down with a heel kick and then he connected with the rolling thunder but only got a two count off the pin.
Rob went for a monkey flip but Chris countered it and then Rob went to the top rope but Chris Benoit knocked him down and gave him some clubs to the back while Rob sat on the top rope and then Chris pulled Rob Van Dam down in a back suplex but Rob countered it into a high cross body in mid air!
Rob Van Dam then gave Chris Benoit the Five Star Frog Splash to pick up the win in an incredible match!
Winner and new WWE Intercontinental Champion, Rob Van Dam
Backstage:
Stephanie and Bischoff were shown and Bischoff told Stephanie to never say never and then he laughed in her direction. Stephanie can now watch the Intercontinental title from now on from RAW. Stephanie looked disappointed, but then she laughed in Bischoff's face and left.
Test vs. the Undertaker
Test's music hit in the arena and he made his way out to the ring as a member of the Un-Americans for his one on one match against the Undertaker!
The Undertaker got a huge pop and as the Undertaker got in the ring, Test bailed out while the Undertaker did his posing in the ring.
Test and the Undertaker locked it up in the center of the ring and Test got the Undertaker in a side headlock but the Undertaker whipped Test off the ropes only to get knocked down with a shoulder block. The Undertaker then took Test down with a big time hip toss to return the favor.
Early in the match, the Undertaker went for the "Old School" but Test shoved the referee into the ropes and that knocked the Undertaker down from the top rope. The referee threatened to DQ Test as Test ignored him and knocked the Undertaker down from the ring apron to the arena floor.
Later on, the Undertaker went for the "old school" and this time, he hit it.
The Undertaker gave Test the snake eyes and then he went for a big boot but Test ducked it.
Test then went for the pump handle slam but the Undertaker got out of it and went for a choke slam that Test got out of.
Test went for the boot but the Undertaker ducked it and gave Test a big time choke slam and then a pin for a two count!
The Undertaker went for the Last Ride but Lance Storm and Christian came out and the Undertaker fought them all off Taker gave both Lance Storm and Christian choke slams and then Test got in the ring and nailed the Undertaker with the big boot and a pin for a two count.
An angered Test got out of the ring and grabbed a steel chair and the referee went to take it but Test shoved him down. The Undertaker then kicked the chair back into the face of Test and then the Undertaker gave Test the tombstone piledriver to pick up the win!
Winner - The Undertaker
The Aftermath:
After the match, the Undertaker went into the crowd and he came back with an American flag and he held it up in the ring, a proud American!
Unsanctioned Match
Shawn Michaels vs. Triple H
A video package was shown to hype up the match between Shawn Michaels and Triple H and this goes way back to their Degeneration X days in 1997.
Shawn Michaels made his way out to the ring to a huge pop and he's up against Triple H in this Unsanctioned fight!
Shawn tossed his shirt right into the face of Triple H to start it off and then he hammered away on him with a number of right hands. Triple H tossed Shawn to the outside but Shawn hopped right back into the ring and speared Triple H down to the mat and gave him a number of right hands to start it off.
Shawn tossed Triple H over the top rope and then he came over the top rope with a high cross body on Triple H to take him down on the outside.
Shawn went under the ring and pulled out a trash can and a trash can lid but Triple H launched Shawn into the security wall to knock him down.
Shawn knocked Triple H down with a trash can and then he came off the top rope with a double ax handle to knock Triple H down.
Shawn then signaled for the sweet chin music but Triple H ducked it and gave Shawn Michaels a vicious back breaker.
Shawn rolled around on the mat screaming and it sounded as if he yelled "No, I can't move!" and with that, Triple H picked Shawn up and gave him another nasty back breaker.
Triple H continued to work over the back by whipping Shawn into the corner as hard as he could, two times and then he delivered a couple elbow drops to the back and pinned him for a two count.
Triple H then got out of the ring and grabbed a steel chair and brought it back into the ring and nailed Shawn right in the back with it and then he pinned him for a two count.
Triple H placed the chair in the center of the ring and then he planted Shawn Michaels on it with a DDT and then he pinned him for a two count and Shawn was busted opened as a result.
Triple H took the belt off of Shawn Michaels and then he whipped him like a dog!
Triple H went under the ring and he pulled out a sledge hammer and the referee tried to stop him from using it but Triple H just shoved the referee and that gave Shawn the opportunity to hammer Triple H down into the corner.
Triple H put Shawn in an abdominal stretch and then he used the ropes to his advantage and Earl Hebner argued with Triple H, even though he can't legally break it up. Earl told Triple H to knock it off, but this is an Unsanctioned match so he has no right to say anything in this contest.
Triple H perched Shawn on the top rope but Shawn fought out of it and then Shawn stood up on the top rope but Triple H shoved Earl into the ropes and that knocked Shawn down.
With Shawn hanging down off the ropes, Triple H nailed him with a hard chair shot to the back to knock him down and out.
Triple H set a chair up in the middle of the ring and then he picked Shawn up and gave him a back breaker right onto the steel chair, using the chair in place of his knee. (ouch) Triple H then pinned Shawn but only got a two count. He pinned him a couple more times to try to put him away but again, Shawn continued to kick out.
Triple H gave Shawn a sidewalk slam onto the folded steel chair and then he pinned Shawn a number of times but Shawn kicked out each and every time.
Triple H placed the chair in the center of the ring once again, but this time, he attempted to Pedigree Shawn but Shawn battled out of it and gave Triple H a low blow and both men went down to the mat.
Both men got up and Triple H picked up the steel chair and went to use it but Shawn kicked the chair right back into the face of Triple H with a super kick but he was unable to cover him to pick up the win. With that, Triple H was busted wide opened at the hands of Shawn Michaels.
Triple H whipped Shawn off the ropes and Shawn came back with a flying forearm and then he nipped up to his feet and whipped Triple H off the ropes and gave him a back body drop as the fans went nuts for Shawn.
Shawn grabbed the steel chair and he nailed Triple H with it to knock him down and then Shawn whipped Triple H into the corner and Triple H went sailing to the outside of the ring where Shawn beat on him with various weapons at ringside.
Shawn nailed Triple H with a trash can lid and then he took a boot off one of the Spanish commentators and then he nailed Triple H in the head with it. Shawn then moved the top set of steel steps and then he circled the ring and gave Triple H a bulldog onto the steps!
After that, Shawn pulled out a ladder and the fans went absolutely nuts for the Heartbreak Kid as he charged into Triple H with ladder to knock him down.
Shawn gave Triple H a slingshot into the ladder on the outside and then he rolled him into the ring and pinned him for a two count. After that, Shawn went to bring the ladder into the ring but Triple H kicked the ladder right into Shawn Michaels to knock him down on the outside.
Shawn Michaels gave Triple H a super plex from the second rope and on the way down, Shawn turned to his side to avoid direct impact on his injured back.
Triple H brought the steel steps into the ring and he went to hit Shawn with them but Shawn gave Triple H a drop toe hold and Triple H's face bounced off the stairs. After that, Shawn knocked Triple H to the outside with a clothesline and then Shawn went out and got a table and set it up at ringside.
Shawn knocked Triple H onto the table with a fire extinguisher and then he went to the top rope and came off the top with a big splash through Triple H and the table and the fans chanted "Holy sh--! Holy sh--!"
Shawn then brought the ladder into the ring as Triple H rolled into the ring and Shawn set the ladder up and climbed it in the corner and came off the ladder with an elbow drop on Triple H! As quick as Shawn went down, he got right back up and pumped himself up for the super kick and he waited in the corner for Triple H to get up and he went for the super kick but Triple H caught it and kicked Shawn in the gut and went for the Pedigree but Shawn rolled Triple H up in a pin for the three count to pick up the win!
Winner - Shawn Michaels
The Aftermath:
As Shawn was celebrating, Triple H nailed Shawn right in the back with the hammer and then he nailed him in the back of the neck to lay him out. EMTs and WWE officials stormed to the ring to haul Shawn out of the arena and Triple H had a smile on his face as he just took Shawn Michaels out.
In the arena:
Howard Finkel said before we present the Championship match, he has something to get off his chest. Howard said he is very proud to say that this is the first pay per view that he has announced in this very arena since Wrestlemania 2! It's a little something called commitment and just so you know, major league baseball may be going on strike, but the fans will always have the WWE!
Trish Stratus' music hit in the arena to interrupt Howard and she made her way out to the ring...
Howard told Trish that she slapped him in the face two weeks ago. Last week, she pushed him into a pool of mud. Just because she is in an arena of Long Island skanks doesn't give her the right to think she is hot stuff to interrupt Howard.
Trish said that she's been feeling really bad at what she did to Howard and she apologizes, but she's been listening to Howard and she never realized what a sexy voice he has. To make it up to Howard, she's got a little surprise. Howard appreciated that and it's a dog eat dog world when Trish has the puppies and Howard has the wiener!
Trish asked that they start it off with a big hug and the two hugged in the ring and Howard liked it and called it a pleasant surprise. Next, she was thinking of the real surprise... Lilian Garcia! Lilian Garcia showed up behind Howard and slapped the taste out of his mouth! Lilian then gave Howard a low blow and it looks like she's back as the main announcer for WWE RAW!
World Wrestling Entertainment Undisputed Championship Match
Brock Lesnar vs. The Rock (c)
It is now time for the main event, which is Brock Lesnar against The Rock with the Undisputed Title on the line!
Brock made his way out to the ring along side Paul Heyman and it's all on the line as The Rock defends the Championship against the 2002 King of the Ring Winner, Brock Lesnar!
The Rock laid his belt down in the aisle way and then he stormed to the ring and gave Brock a number of right hands but Brock quickly responded with an over the head belly to belly suplex and then a pin for a two count.
Brock went right to the ribs by backing The Rock into the corner and nailing him with a number of shoulder blocks. Brock knocked The Rock to the outside of the ring and Paul Heyman gave The Rock a hard kick to the ribs and then Brock went after The Rock and hammered away on him on the outside by knocking him into the crowd with a hard clothesline.
Heyman tripped up The Rock, giving Brock the advantage to capitalize and then he choked away on The Rock behind the referee's back.
The Rock gave Brock a back suplex and both men remained down on the mat but both men did a nip up at the same time to get back to their feet.
The Rock went for the Sharpshooter but Paul Heyman distracted The Rock and then The Rock knocked him down with a right hand.
The Rock took Brock down with a leg lace take down and then he put Brock in the Sharpshooter and for some reason, The Rock seemed to be getting a little bit of heel heat. (Not because of the Sharpshooter, the match started with "Rocky sucks!")
Get this, as The Rock had Brock in the Sharpshooter, you could hear a good number of fans chanting, "Let's go Lesnar!"
Heyman tossed a chair into the ring and then he distracted the referee as Brock used the chair on The Rock.
And the chants get louder... Against The Rock and in support of Lesnar with the "Let's go Lesnar" chants.
Brock got The Rock in a bear hug and when The Rock showed some life, the fans heavily booed but moments later, they chanted "Rocky, Rocky!" A very indifferent crowd here in Long Island, NY.
Paul Heyman distracted the referee, but it worked in favor of The Rock as he gave Brock Lesnar a low blow and the fans booed The Rock and started chanting "Rocky sucks!"
As the fans chanted "Let's go Lesnar," The Rock removed the monitors from the Spanish announce table and then Paul Heyman crept up from behind The Rock but The Rock turned around and noticed him and Paul yelled "Oh sh--!" The Rock then gave Brock Lesnar a sling shot into the steel ring post and you could tell that the fans chanting against The Rock was getting under his skin.
The Rock then got on the announcer's table and gave Paul Heyman a Rock Bottom through the announcer's table that was accepted well by the fans.
This crowd needs to make up their minds... after The Rock gave Paul the Rock Bottom, the fans chanted "Lesnar sucks!"
The Rock then got in the ring and gave Brock Lesnar the Rock Bottom in the ring and the he pinned him but only got a two count!
I've never heard a crowd like this... after Brock kicked out of the Rock Bottom, the fans chanted "Let's go Lesnar!"
Brock gave The Rock a Rock Bottom of his own and he pinned The Rock but only got a two count.
Brock went to whip The Rock off the ropes but The Rock countered it into the spinebuster and then he went for the people's elbow to a number of boos but Brock got up to a tremendous ovation and knocked The Rock down with a hard clothesline.
Brock then went for the F5 but The Rock countered it and gave Brock a number of right hands and then he went for the Rock Bottom but Brock countered it and put The Rock in the F5 and pinned him for the three count to win the Undisputed Championship!
Winner and new WWE Undisputed Champion, Brock Lesnar
The Aftermath:
Brock Lesnar celebrated his win and he is the youngest Champion in the history of World Wrestling Entertainment at the age of 24!
