Edward Carroll Holden was born between 1839-1841, probably in  Florida.  The U.S. census of 1850 states his place of birth as Arkansas, however, no Holden is noted in Arkansas in the 1840 census.  The U.S. 1910 census for Edward Emmanuel Holden, second son of Edward Carroll,  shows his father to be born in Florida and mother born in Texas. Edward died on June 20, 1926 in Fredricksburg, Gillespie County, Texas. (Death Certificate #44). He was buried at Christadelphian Cemetery, near Hye, Texas.  His occupation was the Postmaster of the "Westbrook Postoffice" near Hye, Texas.  He could speak and read both English and German.

Permelia Victoria Banta was born  Feb 26, 1843.  Parmelia died August 5, 1891, the result of being bit by a dog infected with rabies.  She was buried on August 6, 1891 in Christadelphian Cemetery, near Hye, Texas.

Edward and Permelia were married on Oct 24, 1860 in Fredricksburg, Texas.  Marriage License #349 in Gillespie County. Edward's step-father George Freeman performed the ceremony.  Edward and Permelia had 14 children:  Daniel Jefferson, Molly Elizabeth, Sarah Elvina, Edward Emanuel, Charles Josephus, Annie Victoria, John Montgomery, Lillie R.,
Henry Levi, George W., Beulah E., Alice B., James Percival, and Albert.

Little is known about Albert Holden and Mary Ann (Margaret) Mathias (Mathews). Albert  is thought to be from New York, while  his parents are thought to be from Ireland.  Mary Ann is believed to have been born in Ireland, as both the 1850 and 1900 U.S. census lists her birthplace as Ireland.  Both Albert and Mary Ann are listed as age 40 years in the 1850 U.S. census. They are thought to have moved to Matamores, Mexico about 1845.  It is conjectured that Albert died in Mexico during the Mexican-US War between 1846-1848.  After Albert's death, Mary Ann and her two children (Edward Carroll and baby Daniel Webster Holden) moved to Fredricksburg, Texas about 1848.  Mary Ann married George Freeman on April 17, 1952, Marriage License #43, Gillespie County, Texas. George Freeman was a Justice of the Peace in Blanco County.  George is not listed in the census of 1860, and no other records were found.
Daniel Webster Holden is believed to have been born in 1847.  The U.S. Census of 1850 lists the age of Daniel as 5 years.  However, the U.S. Census of 1900 shows Daniel born in Texas in 1847.  It appears both he and Edward C. Holden were shown to be 2 years older than they actually were in the 1850 Census.  The birthplace of their mother Mary is listed as Ireland,  and father's birthplace is listed as unknown.
