Frank owned a half interest in the butcher shop and hardware store of the firm of Matuska & Skalicky. He came to Jackson County in 1881 and until 1901 worked on his fathers' farm in Hunter Twp. He moved to Jackson and in partnership with John Bedner opened a butcher shop, which was conducted in the partnership for one year. Frank bought out John and continued to run the shop an additional year. The Frank Matuska and Frank Skalicky partnership continued until 1906 when Frank Skalisky sold his half interest to his brother Emil. In early 1908 the firm also engaged in the harness business and during 1909 erected one of the finest business blocks in Jackson.
