With winter passing and spring well on the way we decided to spruce up the front yard. We knew we had our work cut out for us, but it was time for a change.
We started working on the two established beds in front of the house. The first task at hand was to get rid of the monkey grass. We definitely needed a color besides green in both flowerbeds.   Colorful "vendenas" were planted once the monkey grass was dug up.
In the meantime, we got this brilliant idea to build a flowerbed around our one and only tree. Not just any flowerbed, this one had to be different! We began by arranging landscape timbers in an octagon shape around the tree. Once the border was in place, a plastic liner was placed in the bottom of the new bed, then filled with a mixture of landscape mix and topsoil. Finally, we planted a multi-color variety of petunias along the front of the bed and misc. daisy seeds along the back. To see the work in progress click on the picture above.
We were so very pleased with the look of the new bed that we have decided to change the edging on the two established beds to landscape timbers as well. You will see pictures of that project as it develops.
