HECTOR CÚPER
Coach : Hector CÚPER (Chabas, Argentina 16/11/55)

Many people turned their noses up at his arrival when it was merely a rumour. He’s too defensive and won’t get on with a fantasista collector like Moratti. But in the side’s first friendly Inter moved in such an ordered and enjoyable manner that the President fell in love. The Argentine practices simple football. He said it from the first day, asking only for sacrifice, commitment and the willingness to fight until the last minute. Such an eager Inter side has not been seen for some time and undoubtedly the merit lies with him.

Appointed: Summer 2001

Preferred formation: 4-4-2
Here are some of Hector Cuper's comments:

"We technicians have to guide. We have to be a lighthouse which illuminates the players."

"Our job, both on and off the field, consists of cultivating everyone's good will, bringing out the best of each player and above all convincing the players that the most important and unescapable element is the team, the "whole", the concept of the game we have, and that we will defend the field at all costs."

"When we lose a game I don't speak with the players in the dressing-room. They feel bad and I feel even worse. "

"A team is driven by its head and by its heart."

"I consider myself to be a worker in the great factory of football."
