Completed oil filter/cooler set-up. I am concerned that the “out” hose from the filter housing has to do a sharp 90-degree turn that leaves it with a kink in it, which will act as a restriction to oil flow. I am further concerned that it touches against the brake arm that swings past to actuate the master cylinder pushrod. It may chafe right through one day.
In th end I didn’t have to touch the hoses where they join the engine, or remove the gearbox outer cover. I simply detached the return line at the frame end and cut it shorter, to reach to the “in” hose-tail of the filter. The fit of the hose on the hose-tail is very tight and I had a devil of a job getting it on with so little slack to grip it by.
The “out” hose went under the engine to the lower hose-tail on the cooler (opposite to what the instructions say, but they do not consider that one may be plumbing-in both a filter and a cooler). Then a hose runs from the top of the cooler over the engine and down to the swing-arm, then doubles back to line up neatly with the frame oil-line hose-tail. The oil is thus running “backwards” through the cooler, compared with what the instructions say to do. It does not appear that it will make a whole lot of difference, however.
I refitted the rear wheel with brake master cylinder missing, pending receipt of a new one.
Re-assembly notes:
(1) One should re-assemble brake pedal, brake arm and return spring before installing the oil filter, otherwise the hoses take up what little working room you have for your fingers her in the space where the brake actuating bits and pieces go. It is not easy re-aligning the brake arm on its square shoulder on the pedal when under spring tension. There is no easy way to do this.
(2) The wide washer on RH end of wheel spindle has to go between the caliper bracket and the speedo drive. Put it outboard of the bracket, and caliper will drag against the disc.
(3) The other end of the caliper bracket bolts to the swingarm bracket inboard of the swingarm bracket.
