| Site objectives: What gives me the arrogance to assume that anyone could possibly be interested in my personal trials, tribulations and (ahem!) triumphs, with this motorcycle? It was for my own benefit that I started taking notes about my efforts to maintain and improve this bike. I needed a record of what had been done, and what remained to be done, to keep it in fine fettle. I'm not a mechanic, and I have a bad memory, so I needed a way to keep track of mechanical symptoms and analyse them to see if any patterns emerged in the behaviour of this beast. Internet searches showed that no one else has documented anything similar for a T140 (to my knowledge). I would have found it useful if they had. Surely I can't be the only one who, working in isolation and far from help, has had to figure out how to take a brake master cylinder apart or get the rear brake arm back onto the foot lever? So, in order to give something back to the world of motorcycling, I shall tell my own grisly story. Everything stated herein has been worked up from First Principles, mainly because I'm ignorant of any other kind. I hope to inform rather than mislead, but please bear in mind that this is the "dumb-ass" approach to the care and feeding of one's T140. If you want to share, or commiserate, or express your own joy at having a sweet-running T140 to get out and scare the gentry and livestock with, then visit my guest book or drop me a line at triumph_bonneville_1977@yahoo.com. |
