EXIT WOUNDS SOUNDTRACK
VARIOUS ARTISTS
Blackground/Virgin Records
Ranking 7.8/10

The soundtrack from the thuggish, DMX-styled movie 'Exit Wounds' is almost as impressive as the movie. This soundtrack provides maximum diversity with styles ranging from Ideal and Playa's R&B. Ruff Ryder camp being represented by DMX, The Lox and Drag-On. The westside connection is established by Mack 10, WC and Caviar. Def Jam remains rock solid with representation by Redman, Lady Luck and many others. Also representing their labels are Rocafella's Memphis Bleek, Slip-N-Slide's Trick Daddy & Trina, Murder Inc's Ja Rule & Black Child, Blackground Records' Timbaland. The mid-west stays strong with a track by Three 6 Mafia. Even Cash Money Millionaires make an appearance. And finally Nas rounds up this all-star hip hop cast.

There is no doubt that this soundtrack is representing the state of rap. A unity among diversity of artists and labels. And in fact, this variety proves appealing.

The first single, "No Sunshine" by DMX, no doubt caught your attention in the trailer for the movie 'Exit Wounds'. This interpolation of Bill Winters' "Ain't No Sunshine", set the stage for DMX's upcoming album. Trick Daddy appears to have his thang locked down solid with the fresh Slip-N-Slide Records. His "We Got" is a sizzlin' club track that just gets the head boppin'. Ideal's R&B gem, "It's On Me" flows fluid over a funkily fresh and appealing beat. Nas' "Gangsta Tears" is as gangsta as it can get, this NY rapper hits you with the hardcore. "1-2-3" by Memphis Bleek, "Party" by Sincere (produced by Timbaland), "Fo All Yall" by Caviar & WC, and Playa's "Incense Burning" are all impressive.

Overall the Exit Wounds Soundtrack was impressive. The diversity provides a good feel for the hip hop scene. With so many different camps represented, it's hard to go wrong when you pick up this album. It's an enjoyable listen.
