Instructions: #1. Stock Intake Removal Alright the first thing we need to do is get rid of that stock air box! Lets see how well you can breathe through a tiny straw! Begin by unclamping the hose from the airbox to the throttle body and remove it. You need either a flat head screw driver or even easier, a 1/4" nut driver. Next, remove the accordion hose from just behind the battery to the air box. All you need to do is pull, no tools needed. You will see that the air box is held on by 2 bolts on the back side of your intake manifold. I dont remember what size, probably 1/2". Remove the bolts and pull the airbox out.
#2. Cold Air Intake Parts I chose to do this with 2.5" piping. I plan on 3" this summer. First go to yoru loacal autozone or comparable store. I believe the straight piping measures 18" and one end is larger for you to fit in another pipe. You also need a 2.5" exhaust dump. A dump is a short piece with a slight bend in it but the opening is 90 degrees from the other end (think 5.0 Mustang GT tailpipe!). You want to pick up a small thing of gasket maker to seal the peices together. You also need 4 2.5" clamps. Your K&N should coem with one, and you probably have 2 with your stock system so use those.
#3. Parts Fabrication Here is where it gets fun, but not hard. you'll notice the straight pipe is a little long, and the wider end wont fit into your stick rubber hose. Cut that end off. A recipricating works best. Next slide the dump over the stright pipe. Seal it. If you wish to cover this up and make it look better like I have, purchase a 2" PVC connecting hose from your local hardware store. Its a tight fit but it will work.
#4. Putting It All Together Hey your almost done. Replace the stock hose onto your throttle body but this time have it goine infront of your intake manifold. You will ahve to run it under your throttle linkages. then slide your exhaust piping into the rubber hose and angle it so the dump faces downward with plendy or room for your filter. This will place your filter just behind your right headlight. Clamp is all together and enjoy. Now you may notice the exhaust piping does get HOT! However the fiters location does not get that hot but the air rushes through the piping so quicly, it doesn't have time to get heated up by the piping. If you choose, paint the pipe to your liking. |
