Some educational corner groups have provided worksheets. You can still fill them out and earn points! Missi has copies of previous worksheets.


MARCH 2003

Sarah Davis from Purdue talked to us about equine nutrition and the importance of forage in a horse's diet. We received a worksheet on the parts of the digestive system from the skillathon kit.


JUNE 2002

We practiced for inteviews (parts of horse and breeds). We also went over how many points everyone has.


MAY 2002

At this meeting we worked on our project books. You'll need them for interviews.


APRIL 2002

For this month, various members presented information on their favorite breed of horse. We received handouts on breeds and parts of the horse, which should be studied for interviews on July 16 and July 17. Interviews will be held in the new rabbit builing.


March 2002

The Educational Corner theme this month involved actively identifying types, colors and markings of horses. Members received full color posters and prints showing colors and patterns such as Tobiano, Overo, Appaloosa, Dun, Grullo, Roan and more. They also received a booklet on Coat Color Genetics as well as a number of diagrams and activity sheets to keep for reference.

Most horses need about 2 percent of their own body weight in air-dry feed per day. (Page 12)

Give 4 characteristics of good quality hay:
Clean, bright, leafy, and free of dust, mold, and decay. (Page 13)

How long should the topline of the neck be in realtion to the bottom line of the neck?
A horse's neck should be twice as long from poll to top of withers as its bottomline is from the throat latch to where the neck attaches into the chest. (page 55)
