WWII came and many of the leaders, including Thomas Costello made a radical change of plans.  After WWII, Mr. Costello started an explorer post here in Winter Haven (Post 23).  After a few years, wondering what ever happened to those old war canoes, he went out to find out.  He found them rotting behind a building at the college.  Mr. Costello negotiated the sale of them and stored them for over 30 years.  Finally, with the help of many sponsors, including Dr Mueller (one of the primary sponsors) we had enough money in 1989 to send the one in better shape to be restored. in 1992 it was returned in "as new" condition.  In 1995 we sent in the second and, unfortunately, we are still waiting for its return.
