Christmas Caroling
On Thursday, December 18 we will be going Christmas caroling as a troop to The Palm House, an assisted living facility.  If you have not yet completed the permission slip for this event, please do so.

The residents are looking forward to seeing our girls and we will be practicing Christmas carols during our meeting ‘circle time’.  This is a wonderful opportunity for the girls to learn how a little effort/caring on their part can mean much happiness to someone else.

There will be no meeting on Dec 16.  We will resume our regular schedule on January 6.  Enjoy your holiday!!!!

The Birds’ Christmas Tree
Once again we will be participating in The Birds’ Christmas Tree at the Fort Worth Botanic Gardens.  This is an annual event during which Girl Scouts and many others from our community will be hanging bird feeders to keep our feathered (and some furry too) friends’ tummies full this winter.  We will meet at the gardens at 11:00 (when traveling north on University from I-30 enter at the first driveway and then follow the crowd).

There will be characters in costume, a sing-along, and a picnic lunch.  Plus, hundreds of bird seed ‘ornaments’ will be hung on branches in the gardens.  It is fun to see all the different types of feeders – all must be completely biodegradable.  We will be making our feeders at our December 2nd meeting.

Hope you’ll join us!

Christmas Party
We are planning a troop Christmas party on December 9.  Please bring a wrapped $5.00 gift for the gift exchange.

During the party we will be holding an Awards Court to present the girls with the Try-Its they have earned so far this year.  If your Girl Scout has attended every meeting, she has earned the following Try-Its:

· Puppets, Dolls and Plays
· Manners
· Girl Scout Ways
· Caring and Sharing

In addition to these, we have completed partial requirements for other Try-its, which will be completed after Christmas and awarded at the second Awards Court to be held in the spring.

If you have missed any meetings this fall, you can make up activities on your own time if you so desire.  Ask your leaders for details on what you are missing and activity ideas.

Service Projects
One of the four program goals of Girl Scouting is “Contributing to Society”.  We have been working hard to reinforce this goal.  So far this year, we have participated in, or are planning this month, the following service projects:

· Food drive (scavenger hunt) for St Andrew’s Social Ministry this summer
· Pet supplies donation to 4 Paws
· Made Meals on Wheels holiday meal tray decorations at Winter Workshop
· Toys for Tots donations at Winter Workshop
· Hang bird feeders during The Birds Christmas Tree at the Botanic Gardens
· Christmas Caroling at The Palm House

Start thinking about cookies

After Christmas we will be launching into the annual Girl Scout cookie sales.  In addition to individual sales, we will be reserving a table at a Blockbuster store for group tabletop sales.  A sign up sheet will be provided for shifts at this sale.

Look for lots of information in your January newsletter!

Meeting Recaps
October 28 – We collected pet supply donations during our birthday party for Juliette Low (founder of Girl Scouts).  The supplies filled up ½ a pickup bed and were very appreciated by the recipient organization, 4 Paws.

November 4 – Discussed and role-played manners and etiquette.  Learned about manners around the world.  The girls had quite a time taking turns being the “bad mannered girl” while the others pointed out their faux pas.

November 11 & 18 – Guest leader Mary Ann Zinno (Jacy’s Grandmother) talked to the girls about sewing and guided them through the creation of Thanksgiving wall hangings featuring their own artwork.  We have several budding seamstresses in our midst!

THANK YOU to Crystal Lundy (Alyssa’s mom) for volunteering to organize our troops cookie sales.  Crystal has already undergone Council “Cookie Mom” training and is VERY appreciated by your leaders!!!!  THANK YOU! THANK YOU!
