The group was small but the Scout Spirit was high

Friday, December 7, 2001 we set up camp at Rota Kiwan for our December campout. With the crisp late fall weather we decided to use Marquette site for the weekend.

After a challenging game of Mafia we went on the traditional Troop 287-night hike. Lead by Mike Blanchard, our destination was the observation deck at Al Sable. It was a perfect night for a hike and the clear sky allowed us to hike through the woods without flashlights!

Saturday morning after gourmet ZipLoc Omelets, Scouts tested their skills at ultimate jump rope and tying a clove hitch around a tree while standing 6 feet away. Both were very challenging!

Still in the hiking mood, we headed back to the observation deck at Al Sable. While hiking the perfect sight was found for Capture the Flag. An hour later we decided it was time to call a truce and return to camp for lunch.

Hunter Safety was the theme for this campout and Mr. Bunch brought more safety information and spent the afternoon working with Scouts demonstrating and setting up several types of tree stands.

Marinated grilled chicken, mashed potatoes with garlic and onions, along with corn was the menu for dinner.

After clean up a LONG game of Mafia was enjoyed by all. Reflections, cracker barrel and lights out!

Temperature Sunday morning was below 30º. The rain shower of Saturday night was now ice on our tents. Hot Chocolate with ZipLoc Omelets warmed everyone for breakfast.

Clean up and Scout run church service, we were back at CHUM around 12:30.
