ELLICOTT CITY, MD
Minutes for January 19, 2009 Committee Meeting
Created January 20, 2009
Attendees: Pat McDermott, John Dittman, Brian Smith, Dale Walker, Howard Warner
Previous Minutes: December minutes accepted with the revision of adding John Dittman as Advancement Chair under “Committee Elections.”
Committee Chair’s Report: The Committee had a lengthy discussion on the future direction of the troop. To summarize the discussion, it was agreed that the troop program should continue with a strong “outdoor” influence, but with some additions of day trips and non outdoor merit badge activities.
Treasurer’s Report: Dennis is out of town. Report not submitted.
Scout Credits: Not discussed
Scout Master’s Report: The troop needs to work on recruiting new scouts and active parents, developing the troop program for upcoming years, and trying to get more involvement from current parents. We need to ask the scouts if they plan to attend Scout Sunday at Emory.
Greenbar Report: Meeting was postponed.
Advancement Chairperson Report: John noted that Gabe, Andrew, Michael and Colin are well on their way to making “Eagle”.
Merit Badge Counselors Report: Mr. Scarborough is asking for more information from some of the adults that applied to be merit badge counselor.
Quartermaster’s Report: We need to make sure that we have enough propane for the Klondike Derby.
Activities Coordinator Report: Submitted in writing. Priority issues include: 1) Timberline Ski trip. 2) Klondike Derby. 3) Scout Sunday (Feb 8th). 4) Winter Cabin Camping (Feb 20-22); we need activities. Dale is out of town so the troop will not be shooting rifles, but archery is an option. 5) Mall Show (new date Feb 20th conflicts with Cabin Camping)
Roundtable Minutes:
Troop Information Manager Report: Dale was asked to verify the link to National Pike District. (Follow-up; the troop web page has the relatively new National Pike link.) Gary sent email to Dale noting that there were several Catoctin photos on the Canoe Base picture web page.
To do:
1) Get a spare for the trailer.
2) We need to task the Troop Librarian to collect the merit badge books back from the scouts. Several are missing from the library. If “borrow” list is not in existence, it needs to be started so the troop can keep track of the book location.
3) Need to scheduled CPR and first aid training for those that need full training.
4) Howard made contact with the Franciscan Friars Monastery and received permission to set up a place for archery. We need to schedule some dates for the spring.
5) The troop will need to schedule adult archery training some time late in the spring.
Miscellaneous: no items
Next committee meeting is scheduled for February 16, 2009 starting at 7:00 pm at Emory Church.
