PART 4 | ||||||
Adella... "I'm here!" I sang out as I entered the throne room, carrying two of my bags. Flounder struggled with my third, and Sebastian was grunting and groaning as he dragged in my make-up bag. It was a good thing I had run into them that morning. I automatically recruited them into helping me with my things. "It's about time," Aquata said, her hands on her hips. I rolled my eyes. "I'm not THAT late. Besides, Ariel..." I broke off as I noticed that my baby sister was floating right next to Arista. Oh. She was actually on time for a change. Ariel grinned at me. I handed my bags to the octopus and tried to explain. "I just had SUCH a time with my hair. You know how harsh the waters are on my hair when we're travelling..." I patted the neat bun I had finally done with my favorite pearl combs nestled in my midnight hair. "You look wonderful, my darling," Daddy told me. "Now, let's all get aboard so we can be on our way." I swam over to the chariot, eager to sit next to Ariel. I had a few questions to ask her about that whozit that had turned our hands gold. I looked at Attina and wondered what she had done with the whozit, since she had had it last, and I knew that she wouldn't touch it again, for fear her hands would turn gold once more. Andrina: I headed out to meet Daddy and my sisters. I handed my bags to the octopus and went to wait with my sisters. Surprisingly, Ariel was already here, so who were we waiting on? My question was answered when Adella came out with two bags, followed by Sebastion and Flounder, who were struggling with two more of her bags. "Adella, we're only going for a couple weeks, we're not moving to the Arctic! No need to take your whole room! What is all that anyway?" I asked my sister. It was obvious packing light was not her specialty. Ursula: So King Triton had a way of dealing with the glowing hands. No matter, I thought, as I prepared for my next attack. I had hypnotised two sharks by placing magic starfish on each of their chests. As long as I wore this special amulet, they would do only as I said. ********* I hid behind a coral reaf waiting for the king and his group of mer-brats... Ariel I settled in between Adella and Andrina in the chariot. Even with all of us in it there was room and it felt comfy. Sebastian and Flounder swam in and we were off. "Ya know mon, it's been years since I been to the Arctic!" Sebastian smiled, then he launched into a story. I tuned him out. It was almost natural for me to not listen to him. After all, in class I was always daydreaming. It wasn't that I didn't want to listen to Sebastian, but there were just always other things to think about. I couldn't wait until we got to the Duchess's castle. From what I remember it was magnificent. Carved completely out of ice (a huge iceberg) I had loved to explore it when I was younger. Exploring was still one of my favorite things to do. And luckily my best friend and exploring partner Flounder would be with me this time. The castle was so big and vast that I had never even seen it all. But that was good, I would have plenty of time to check it out. What always amazed me about the Duchess's home was how well carved and expertly sculpted it was. A real work of art....Suddenly Adella's bony elbow was sticking me in the side. I glanced sharply at her. "Ariel? Didn't you hear me?" She asked. "Uh I guess not." I blushed. I had been really gone. I hadn't even noticed Adella was talking at all. "Well, I asked if you knew why that whoozit turned our hands an odd color." She lowered her voice so Daddy wouldn't hear. "No." I shook my head. "I don't know. But to be hinest Adella, I don't even know for sure it was the human thing that caused it." I shrugged. "Oh come on, what evidence do you have that it DIDN'T?" She smirked. "None really, but it's just strange, no other human treasure ever did that. Why was this one different?" I replied. "I still think it could have been a joke." Andrina whispered. She had obviously been listening in on our talk. "Andrina!" Adella hissed. Just then the dolphins cried out sharply and we swerved to the right. I crashed into Adella as Andrina and Arista crashed into me. "What's going on?" Flounder exclaimed, looking scared. "Sharks!" Daddy shouted in a powerful tone. He didn't sound afraid, but he was warning us. I got off of Adella giving her an appologetic look. "SHARKS!?" Alana and Adella cried in horror. "Calm down!" Aquata said as gently as possible. "Father will take care of it." "H-how can you be so sure?" Alana asked. Aquata didn't reply. She was staring out the oval window at two large sharks. They were about to ram into us! Ursula: Everything was going according to plan. As long as I wore this amulet, the sharks were in my power. Nothing would stop me now!!! King Triton's carriage came to an abrupt halt when the sharks were noticed. Screams of "Oh no! Sharks!" and "What're we gonna do!" could be heard from my hiding place. This truly was entertaining. I laughed evilly. Triton: My head was positively throbbing from Sebastion's going on and on with his story. I glanced to the side and saw something heading straight for us... "Sharks!" I gripped my trident and turned the chariot sharply. "You girls stay in here!" I shouted back, but Ariel and Flounder had already swam out to see what was going on. "Ariel!" I watched the sharks cut quickly through the water as one chomped as it chased Flounder. The other had drawn a bead on Ariel. I raised the trident over my head and let a blast loose that could have split the ocean floor. The blast flew through the water and connected with the shark... but it did nothing! The shark turned towards me and was swimming full speed at me. I turned to my right and saw Flounder coming my way with the other shark still right behind him. As soon as he was at me, I grabbed Flounder and swam straight up as I watched the two sharks bash heads and get their teeth tangled. I let another blast loose on them, but it did nothing but anger them more. I guess that wasn't going to work at all... then I had an idea! I used the trident to encase the two sharks in rocks and sea weed... I watched as the drifted down to the ocean floor. "Ariel... get back to the carriage! Take Flounder with you." I glanced around, but saw nothing... it just didn't feel right out here. I swam back and get back in the driver's seat. "Let's just get to the Arctic and forget this happened... " I looked back and saw a couple of the girls nod, but Ariel still looked a little shaken. I'd have to get to the bottom of what caused the sharks to act like that. For now, though, I was sure the vacation was what we all needed. Adella... I managed to sit right next to Ariel in the chariot. I had a million questions to ask her about the whozit. But Sebastian started jabbering. "Ya know mon, it's been years since I been to the Arctic!" he smiled. "I remember de last time I was dere..." I looked out the window and saw a merman swim by on a seahorse. I wondered where he was going. No one travelled alone out in these parts--it was so unknown, so mysterious...I caught a glimpse of my reflection. Ugh! Travelling did horrors to my hair! I tried to smooth it back down. "An' da Dutchess was so angry!" Sebastian was saying. "So I..." I...I noticed a school of fish swimming along side the chariot. "Now, class," the teacher was saying, "you must always remember to keep your formation when we change directions. On the count of three...one, two, three." I snickered as the young fish collided into one another. I looked down at my tail and smoothed down my scales. I smiled as I admired the shades of gold that glistened at my slightest movement. That whozit was the perfect color to match. I had really wished I could have kept it, maybe found a way to wear it in my hair. But that it made my hands glow--well, there was such a thing as over-coordinating! Sebastian was still busy gabbing, so I decided it was safe to talk to Ariel. "Ariel," I whispered. "Do you know why that heart thing made our hands glow?" "Ariel?" I repeated when I heard no response. I nudged her with my elbow. "Ariel? Didn't you hear me?" "Uh, I guess not." she said. Figures. Ariel was always daydreaming. "Well, I asked if you knew why that whoozit turned our hands an odd color." I said, lowering my voice so Daddy wouldn't hear. "No," she said, shaking her head. "I don't know. But to be honest Adella, I don't even know for sure it was the human thing that caused it." She shrugged. "Oh come on, what evidence do you have that it DIDN'T?" I asked. "None really, but it's just strange, no other human treasure ever did that. Why was this one different?" "I still think it could have been a joke." Andrina whispered, leaning towards us. "Andrina!" I scolded. Leave it to her to eavesdrop on a PRIVATE conversation. All of a sudden, I was thrown against the window as the weight of my sisters crushed me. What a sudden turn! "What's going on?" Flounder exclaimed, looking scared. "Sharks!" Daddy shouted in a powerful tone. He didn't sound afraid, but he was warning us. Ariel shot me a look of apology as she pulled herself off of me. "SHARKS!?" Alana and I cried in unison. "Calm down!" Aquata said as gently as possible. "Father will take care of it." "H-how can you be so sure?" Alana asked. Aquata didn't reply. She was staring out the oval window at two large sharks. They were about to ram into us! I braced myself for the impact. Daddy swerved the chariot and shouted back to us, "You girls stay here!" But Ariel and Flounder had already swam out to see what was going on. "Ariel!" I held my tail up against the window, not bearing to look at what was happening out there. "Adella!" Andrina cried, pushing my tail out of the way so she could see. Daddy raised the trident over his head and aimed it at one of the sharks. I covered my eyes. "Oh my gosh!" Aquata breathed. "It didn't even scratch him!" I looked and saw that the sharks were still chasing Flounder and Ariel. Daddy blasted them again with the trident, but they were invincible. Finally, he managed to ensnare them in seaweed "Ariel... get back to the carriage! Take Flounder with you," he ordered my baby sister. A moment later, he swam back and said, "Let's just get to the Arctic and forget this happened... " I nodded, then looked out the window to be sure the sharks were no longer a threat. I saw six figures swimming away. "Daddy!" I cried. "The dolphins are loose! They're getting away!" I hoped that we were safe from the sharks because it looked like we were stranded! Ariel Somehow Daddy stopped the impact. I couldn't see much, Arista and Andrina were in the way. But I couldn't stand the suspense, so I raced out the chariot door to see what was going on. Flounder quickly followed. Daddy was battling the sharks, but his trident didn't seem to be working! "Ariel!" He shouted to me. I hadn't meant to distract Daddy, now the sharks were headed right for him! Luckily he saw then coming in time. He then trapped the sharks in a mound of seaweed. "Ariel... get back to the carriage! Take Flounder with you," He ordered. I hated being ordered, but when your Father is the king there isn't much choice. I reluctantly swam back to the chariot with Flounder close behind me. I was just trying to help. "Let's just get to the Arctic and forget this happened... " Daddy told us in a gentler tone, when he swam back to the chariot. Well, at least our vacation could get started now.... "Daddy!" Adella yelled, looking suddenly panicked again. "The dolphins are loose! They're getting away!" I stuck my head out the nearest window. She was right! I turned to Alana, thinking quickly. She was great with all knds of sea-animals.I did not want to be stuck here. We weren't far from Atlantica, but it would be a shame to have to postpone the trip and disappoint Daddy. "Alana, can't you talk to them?" I asked. "I can try." She said, nodding. "Maybe use your sea whistle?" I suggested. It was what she used a lot to teach dolphins tricks. Alana swam off after the dolphins, calling to them and tooting the whistle. Daddy didn't look too pleased. "Alana! Get back here. There could be more dangers near by.....Alana!" "It's okay Daddy" I said from behind him. "Alana is just going to talk the dolphins into coming back. It's safe now, they just don't know it." I explained. He shook his head and said nothing. Within minutes Alana was back, and she brought the six dolphins with her! "Alright!" Arista cheered. "Now we can finally get going!" Flounder smiled. "I thought we were stranded for sure." Adella let out a sigh of relief. Aquata got out and helped Daddy hook the dolphins back up. When that was done we were ready to go. Ursula: Once the carriage had continued on, I crept out of hiding to free the sharks. For now, we would just follow behind. I followed behind, making sure to keep quiet so nobody would hear me. Andrina: "Boy, somebody must love playing jokes. First the glowing hands, and now this." I said, after Daddy had trapped the sharks. "Must you ALWAYS think about practical jokes?" Adella snapped, "we could have gotten killed!" "Well, why ELSE would sharks come after us? They don't usually dwell in these parts." I said. "I think someone IS trying to play a joke, you saw how Daddy blasted them and nothing happened." "That doesn't make it a joke! Who's laughing?" Adella argued. "Girls, quit bickering!" Daddy's voice silenced us. "Let's just get to the Arctic and forget this incident!" "Daddy's right," Ariel said, "if someone IS behind the shark incident and the glowing hands, maybe they're just trying to get us irritated with other so we don't work together to stop them." "Ariel's right," Flounder said. I had to agree with my baby sister. Since yesterday, Adella and I had been bickering a lot and most of it had to do with the jokes that were played on us. I screamed as the sharks came closer and chased me and Ariel. Suddenly, I just couldn't move at the sight of the sharp teeth of the devilish skark right in front of me, ready to swallow me whole. I was shivering all over. Something or someone snatched me from where I was. "Thank you Ariel," I managed to say before I lost consciousness. Adella and Andrina were arguing about I don't know what. Whew! I thought that was the end of it all. "Oh Flounder, are you okay?" Ariel asked worriedly. "Oh yes! I'm fine. If you hadn't grabbed me away, I could have kicked those sharks away. They surely won't bother us again!" "Yeah, right. If you didn't freeze like ice in fright!" Sebastian said in her usual tone. Ariel giggled while Ariel's two sisters continued arguing. King Triton then told us to forget everything that had happened. Just when we were going on our way to the Arctic, I caught a glimpse of something silvery, sparkling. It was a beautiful starfish! But this one is different. "Maybe this is one of those magical starfishes that can grant you anything you wish for. They say that once you found one, it is really for you. I just wish I could share this to Ariel. She always has the wildest, most impossible dreams. I know!" I crept a little away from the others, held the starfish close, and said, "I ask this magic starfish to grant Ariel that which she desires the most!" I wore the starfish around my neck. "That should do," I said with a chuckle. "Flounder! Where are you?" Ariel called. "Er- right here!" I called back as I made myself seen. Suddenly, my entire body became hot. So hot that I seemingly was benumbed all over. But i felt a great, twisting pain. "Ahhhhhh!" I screamed. Ariel swam towards me. "Flounder, what's happening? Father, help!" I felt that I have been frozen, but not like the first time- not because of fear and not entirely. I just lost control of my every move. I could see everything that I did. I attacked Ariel and her sisters and Sebastian and Ahhhh! I attacked even the King! They couldn't do anything. It's good to know they somehow care for me. I swam at full speed. Ariel was sudenly right in front of me. "Flounder please! Stop! It's me! It's us!" Ariel cried. I felt tears streaming down my eyes. Still, I pushed Ariel so hard that she fell in the reef- the reef that, because of some strong energy, just sucks anything that come near it. I never thought I could be so dangerous. Because of the fear of losing my best friend, I fought and fought hard. It pained me so much. I seemed to have dropped something and suddenly, I was released. I rushed to Ariel and helped her. Everyone came to help too. And before I knew it, everything was fine. "Now, what could have caused such a behavior in Flounder? Things are getting complicated," King Triton said. I was about to tell everyone that I think it was the magical starfish I found when I saw Adella in the act of wearing the starfish. "Adella, nooooo!" I screamed. But it was too late... |
