Television's Survivorman launching his debut EP

Wednesday, April 25, 2007

On Saturday, May 5 at 9 p.m. TV’s Survivorman Les Stroud and platinum recording artists the Northern Pikes will rock the crowd at Deerhurst Resort when they launch their collaborative debut EP Les Stroud and The Pikes.

The Northern Pikes, who formed in 1984 and continue to tour, are recipients of platinum and gold albums for top Canadian hits: Girl with A Problem, Things I Do For Money and She Ain’t Pretty. While widely known from his TV role as Survivorman, Stroud is also a singer and songwriter.

Early in the days of Survivorman’s presence on television screens, Jay Semko of the Northern Pikes convinced his bandmate Bryan Potvin to check out the show. Potvin was impressed enough to look up Stroud on the web, discovering that he was also a performing musician.

With the subsequent blending of the two creative entities, the resulting EP highlights Stroud’s original tunes, as well as compositions by Stroud and the members of the Northern Pikes.

The independently produced six-song EP, influenced by folk, rock and blues, is the beginning of an innovative musical union backed by years of experience and classic songwriting, which is evident from the first haunting notes of We Crawl to Stroud’s well-known prowess on the blues harmonica during Nice Tattoo.

Hot off filming in the Kalahari Desert and an appearance on TV’s The View, Stroud is returning to Deerhurst to regale the audience with tales from his expeditions and debut his EP release.

A full-length CD from Les Stroud and the Northern Pikes will be released later this year and Canadian tour dates will be scheduled in support of the release.

Stroud will also host his second annual Survivorman Rocks getaway at Deerhurst Resort from May 4 to 6.
