As Melissa Phillips, soon to be Carter, lay awake in bed, she looked over at the blonde man sleeping next to her and she thought of the amazing night that had just taken place. She, a simple girl from Jersey, would be marrying, the one, the only, Nick Carter in just a few months. She hadn't meant to propose to her long-time boyfriend, it just kind of popped out at the spur of the moment.

~EARLIER THAT NIGHT~
"Thanks for throwing this birthday party for me." Nick said unenthusiastically to his friends Brian Littrell and Tanya Lopez. "You're welcome?" Tanya said questioningly, she could tell something was wrong with Nick by the tone in his voice, and she knew exactly what it was.
Nick and his girlfriend Melissa had broken up the week before the party, he still thought about her, of course he thought about her. Melissa was the love of his life, he'd never find anybody more understanding, more beautiful, more everything. Melissa was perfect, and he deeply regretted yelling at her last Tuesday. She was gone; probably back to Hawthorne to stay with her parents for a little while, sure, he'd see her again, when she came to the house to pick up her things. But other than that, she was gone, and Nick couldn't bear with that.
"I'm fine. I'm fine." Nick told himself over and over, when he'd see happy couples together, it'd make him sick to his stomach. That's the main reason he tried to avoid Tanya and Brian all night. "They're a fresh couple. Just wait 'til there is a fight. Just wait." Nick's conscious told himself. He sat down in the corner, alone, to gather his thoughts.
Tanya smiled and nudged Brian in the side when she noticed another guest came in the door. "Ouch! What?" Brian asked rubbing his side. "Look who showed up." Tanya pointed at her best friend, Melissa, who had just entered the room. Brian's glance immediately shot over to Nick, who didn't notice Melissa had come to the party.
"Hey." Melissa slumped over to where Brian and Tanya were standing. "Hey! Glad you decided to show up!" Brian said warmly. "Yea, uh huh." Melissa said scanning the room. "He's in the corner pouting." Tanya pointed out Nick whose face was buried in his hands. Brian gave Melissa a shove in Nick's direction. She gave Brian a fleeting look, he simply smiled.
"Uh, hey, can we talk?" Melissa asked as she approached Nick. He scooted over on the couch so she could sit down. "Listen, about last Tuesday…." Nick started, trying to explain, but he was cut off by Melissa saying, "No, don't talk, it's my fault, I'm the one that cheated on you with Tommy." Nick sighed deeply when he heard Tommy's name. "Wait though, if I didn't still love you, I wouldn't have shown up here tonight." Melissa added. Nick looked up, and straight into her eyes. The crystal blue color was enough to make his heart melt. He loved Melissa more than anything else on earth. Nick managed to crack a half smile though, Melissa could tell he was about to cry.
A few more moments of awkward silence passed. Melissa then blurted out "Let's get married." Tears poured from her eyes, she bit her lip, not knowing what Nick's response would be, she waited impatiently. "Nicky, honey?" She whispered. He looked up again, his face streaked with tears. She wiped the tears from his face and he smiled. "Aw, why do I have to cry for you? Yes, of course I'll marry you." Nick finally answered his, now, fiancée and they embraced in a passionate kiss.
"Look!" Tanya smiled again and poked Brian in the arm. "Ouch! What?" he said again. Tanya pointed to Nick and Melissa. "I told ya my plan with this whole birthday party for Nick would get those two back together." "Yeah, but one question, how are we gonna get em apart so Nick and I can watch the football game?"
