Trowse park & Ride
The park and ride scheme seems to be a retrograde step for the village and of no benefit to this community. The by-pass was constructed to remove traffic from the village and any reduction in the effectiveness of this measure is to be avoided.
The extra bus and car traffic generated will not provide any benefit to the community of Trowse. Instead, Trowse will bear a considerable environmental burden in an effort to improve the traffic flow in Norwich. The village is a conservation area and it cannot be reasonably claimed that the construction of a park and ride area with places for 650 cars will improve or enhance the character of the village. Light pollution will ensue from the construction of the scheme due to the need to provide security. The proposed bus route is through a residential area with a school and near an older persons development. Current traffic in the village is at unacceptable levels, additionally, there are 8 buses an hour. The buses at the moment, and in the future, will have need to maneuver through a narrow point at White Horse Lane that cannot reasonably and safely be expected to carry the required traffic. Trowse is a village that is attempting to build on its rural heritage after the building of the by-pass. Any park and ride scheme will nullify the environmental enhancements to date Current traffic travels at unacceptable speed through the village and is unacceptable and dangerous. The parish council have made representation to the county council in this matter. Any increase in traffic will be even more threatening. The current building of the Hopkins homes developments will increase traffic flow by 600 journeys a day and cause a bottle neck at 'The Street' where it joins Whit Horse Lane. The construction of the park and ride will have implications for the drainage of the area as the site is part of the River Tas flood plain. Environmental impact assessments do not appear to have been carried out to date.
