 Information on Pugs.

Pugs are pretty hard to come by these days as Don Burke from "Burkes backyard" showed them on his show later on he got a pug of his own and occasionally you can see it running around in the background on his show. Pugs do NOT cope with heat hot weather will kill a pug in no time. Leaving them outside in 40 degree heat like the Australian summer will result in a dead pug. A Pugs life span is about ten to twelve years due to nasal sag mostly(Pugs have same lenght nasal passage as average dog only scrunched up into the little nose they have(Also means they snore awake or asleep)). Pugs can be acquired only by a breeder, occasionally breeders advertise in the paper but the best way is to ring the Canine Association (the south Aust. Canine Ass number: (+61)0883494797) in your major city. They then can usually give you the details of a registered breeder that may have a litter soon in the future.

Character of a Pug.
They have the properties of a small dog in the ability to sit on your lap but have the energy and stamina of a big dog. The Pug probably has the greatest and most defined character in any dog. Pugs have a personality of their own" and if you have ever seen the film "Milo and Oatis" where Oatis is a pug dog you will see that Pugs have an insatiable curiosity of anything and everything. If you open a cupboard they will want to look in it. Pugs love to play and enjoy tug toys like ropes and stuffed toys, Beware they become addicted to stuffed toys and may chase any teddy bear owned by kids etc. Pugs love kids and if bought up together will become best friends. I was told when i got my Pug that they tend not to be very loyal and will not notice if you disappear. This is not true as they fret if their owner goes missing even for a short amount of time. They tend to want to walk next to you everywhere you go. Pugs are really intelligent. If you talk to a Pug you can tell they understand what you are saying as they tilt their head to one side as though they are saying "Yes Boss I understand". Pugs love to run even if its around in circles in your lounge room. My Brother has Rotties and my Pug can keep up with them and occasionally outruns them. They have the ability like a rabbit to turn suddenly almost at 90 degrees. Pugs are not aggressive (even though in play they tend to chew a bit and normally on your hand) but they tend to think they can take on a big dog and they definitely try. My next door neighbour has a Shepherd that can virtually look over the fence yet Milo tries to jump up at him (I mean try as the pug can't really jump high at the most I have seen him reach two feet).
