It takes place in the year 1519. These two guys are gambling and they have loaded dice. Then they are going to get a map to get a map and they use different dice, but they still win. The guy finds out they have loaded dice and they chase them. They go in a bull pen and the bull also chases after them. Tulio and Miguel are their names.
They hide in some barrels and they get on a ship. They get put into a prison on the ship. They are going to escape on a row boat. They do with the help of a horse. The horse comes with them. The map is for directions to El Dorado or “City of Gold.” They are lost at sea with no food because the horse ate it.
They are very hungry and they are talking to each other saying were going to die. They land on land. Then Miguel looks at his map and realizes they are on their way to El Dorado. Tulio doesn’t believe it though. They start on their journey!
They take a bath in a natural hot spring and monkeys take their clothes. They find all sorts of things that are on the map. Then they find a big slab of stone. They think El Dorado is just a big slab of stone. Then they see an Indian girl and whole Indian army. They show Tulio and Miguel the way to El Dorado.
They go behind a waterfall and they see a light coming to El Dorado. They get to go to it. They are amazed. Everybody is looking at them. They are scared. Tzekel-Kan thinks they are gods. That Indian girl’s name is Chel and she is pretty.
They want to see the gods power and a volcano erupts and Miguel shouts STOP. The volcano stops erupting and sucks everything back in. The people are amazed. They are shown to their temple and they are very tired of the climb up the stairs.
Chel comes in and they say leave before we strike lightening bolts at you. Chel knows they are not really gods. She won’t tell though, because she said her only wish is to serve the gods. The only condition is when they leave with a lot of gold she wants to come with. They say well, OKAY!
Tulio says Chel is off limits, she’s trouble. Miguel finally agrees. They walk down their temple and the people start playing a song. Tulio and Miguel are singing, “It’s tough to be a God.” Everybody enjoys the song.
When Tulio and Miguel wake-up they are going to give him a sacrifice. The sacrifice was a human which was from Tzekel-Kan. They refused it. Then they got another sacrifice. It was from the chief.
The chief gives them all sorts of gold objects. They go to the chief and tell him that they need to leave soon and that they need a boat. He says a week and that they would have a boat built.
They started to go to Tzekel-Kan and he says three days. They agree. Tulio wants Miguel to stay low, but he escapes with the help of Chel. Chel stays with Tulio and gives him a back rub. Then Tulio gives her one. Miguel goes through the town of El Dorado and looks at all the buildings. He is amazed.
He gives the guards a day off and he starts playing a ball game with some kids. Tzekel-Kan sees this and goes to Tulio. Chel leaves quickly. He tells him that they must have a sacrifice with blood for the year of the Jaguar to go correctly.
Then Tulio and Miguel get to play ball with 15 of the chief’s strongest men. They must win. The chief’s people are winning. Chel gives them an armadillo and Tulio and Miguel are catching up. They get a real ball and they score. Tulio and Miguel the gods win!
Then Tzekel-Kan says losing team is sacrificed. Miguel says no and that there is no more sacrifices ever. Everybody cheers. Tzekel-Kan gets upset and stomps away angrily. The boat is taking shape. Miguel says it doesn’t look safe. He doesn’t want to leave. The chief asks him if he wants to stay, but he says he must go with his partner Tulio.
Tulio tells Chel that he wants her to come to Spain with them. Well actually just him and he says to forget Miguel. Tzekel-Kan makes a big monster.
Miguel tells Tulio to forget the plan. Then the monster that Tzekel-Kan made pops out of his temple and goes through the street. It’s chasing after Miguel and Tulio. Tzekel-Kan tells Them he knows who they really are.
Tzekel-Kan told everybody that they are not gods. They confess! Then Tzekel-Kan and his monster get thrown in the scared well.
He comes out of the water and sees a soldier from Spain. He thinks that he is a God. Miguel decides to stay. Tulio is mad at him. The soldier asks Tzekel-Kan where he got his gold earring. He’s going to show him.
He says bye and Chel gives him a kiss and they start to leave. Miguel tells Tulio good luck and Tulio says the same to Miguel.
The army is coming. The Chief says get ready to fight, but Miguel says no you just can’t. Tulio has a plan and it is to run the ship into the pillars and block the passage way.
Miguel decides to go with Tulio. He takes his horse and rides it then he jumps off the horse and grabs the sail. He did it. The horse and Miguel are on the ship safely.
They make it safely out and they blocked the passage. The soldiers are mad at Tzekel-Kan and they kill him. They turn around and go home. Tulio, Miguel, Chel, and the horse all make it and are happy they did. Tulio and Miguel says that was an adventure and they are partners again.
They go back home with no more map. They did it. They saw El Dorado and they hid it from the army! They are happy they did it and also that Tzekel-Kan is gone. They will miss El Dorado, though.
