The Road to El Dorado (Disney)

by Justin H

The story begins in Spain during 1521. There’s a man with a map of “Wonders of New World.” El Dorado is believed, by the Spaniards, to be the city of gold. Men bet money and rolling dice to win the money.

The two main characters, Miguel and Tulio, get in a fight with a swords (fencing). They then meet behind a curtain (hiding from the crowd) and they make a plan to get away. We then find out that the whole fight was acted and planned out. A bull then chases the two friends.

A boat is being packed up to leave to the “New World.” Miguel and Tulio hide in the boat and stowaway. They get caught by Cortes, the leader of the expedition. He puts them in the cell of the boat and tells them that they will be punished for what they did. So Miguel and Tulio make a plan to escape and go to El Dorado. They get in a long boat and try to sail back to Spain.

They end up being in El Dorado. Miguel has the map and discovers where they are. The two men make a plan to find the gold and take it back to Spain with them. They find a trail and Miguel checks the map and then tells them to follow it. We then also find out that El Dorado is Native for “Great Big Rock.”

Then some people, Native Indians, come and show Miguel and Tulio the way. They lead them through a water fall and they reach the city of El Dorado. The city is a rich and very wealthy city. The people of the city think that Miguel and Tulio are gods and let them stay in the temple.

A lady hears them talking about their plan to get the gold and return to Spain. She makes a deal with them. She agrees to help them get the gold and they promise to take her back to Spain with them since she is a slave.

Miguel and Tulio make an entrance to the people. They were special fancy clothes and they sing a song (like they are gods as the people think they are). When they wake up the next morning, the people offer and try to make a human sacrifice to them. Miguel and Tulio tell them not to because they don’t want anybody to be killed. So the people throw gold into a pool of water (where spirits of the gods are believed to be). Miguel and Tulio tell them to put all the gold in the temple for them instead of throwing it into the pool. So that’s what the people do.

Some men swing on the calendar pole. Miguel swings with them. There’s kids that are playing a ball game. They hit the ball with their body.

Meanwhile, outside of the city, Cortes and his men arrive on the island. The “gods,” Miguel and Tulio, are challenged to play a ball game against the city’s “finest men.” They play in a big stadium. An armadillo is used for the ball and it scores for the “gods.” Miguel and Tulio end up winning. The leader of the people offers another human sacrifice to them. Miguel speaks to them and says: “No more human sacrifices will be made ever again!” A boat is being made for Miguel and Tulio (they asked for one because they plan on leaving).

Tulio falls in love with the slave woman. They kiss. The leader of the people, meanwhile, makes a potion to make a Jaguar monster that he controls. He makes it to get rid of the “gods” because he doesn’t think that Miguel and Tulio are gods. The Jaguar comes after them. It falls into the pool of water and dies. The leader of the people gets captured by Cortes and his people. Miguel then makes a choice to stay in El Dorado.

Tulio packs up his gold and the rest of his things to leave for home. Miguel and Tulio say goodbye to each other. A messenger returns to the city and warns them that Cortes and his men are coming. El Dorado people prepare for battle. Then, at the last second, Miguel decides to go with Tulio to Spain.

The people of the city close the city gate so that Cortes and his men can’t get in. Miguel and Tulio get outside of the city and they see Cortes. They hide from him until he leaves. The gate to get into the city is closed (pillars collapsed) and nobody can get in.
