Lavernacus, the Soldier
by: Luke

Long ago in 30 B.C. Rome, a baby was born. His mother named him Lavernacus. Lavernacus was born with unusual powers. He was very strong, in his childhood years he was different from all the other kids.

When Lavernacus was sixteen years old he was taken to be trained as a soldier. He was in a group of several hundred men. Only about one hundred men would make it to battle. Lavernacus didn’t do his best because, he didn’t want to be in a battle. He thought he was to young to die. The trainers could see the strength in Lavernacus.

Lavernacus was chosen to go to battle. He was sent to an army camp not far from Rome. Lavernacus wasn’t treated very well. All the rules were very strict, and harsh. For punishment, the men were put in a small dark room with only a ten by ten inch window for light. The window had four iron bars so the people in the room couldn’t get away.

Lavernacus was never locked up in the room but, he had herd from others that it wasn’t a place were anyone would ever want to be.

On the second day, the men were put to work. They learned to use a sword and shield, and a spear. The more talented men, such as Lavernacus, learned to use more advanced weapons such as a double beaded battle ax. As time went on Lavernacus excepted that he was very powerful. Now Lavernacus tried his best at everything. As long as he didn’t go to war he was fine.

When Lavernacus turned nineteen he was given armor and his weapons. He was sent to Rome where the army was formed. Lavernacus was going to go to war! He felt worried that he would die, yet, he felt proud that he would get to march with Rome into battle.

The army was sent to war in southern Italy. They camped out in large valley for many weeks. The general sent a group of men to scout the area for an enemy army. Several days latter the group returned. They said there was an army about ten days of travel away. That night the Romens moved south. It took them only seven day before the spotted the other army.

Now Lavernacus was very worried that he would die. When the general gave the orders to attack, Lavernacus fled to the nearest bolder. Lavernacus sat behind the big rock and thought it would be a safe place. But, as the Romens retreated Lavernacus was took as a prisoner.

Lavernacus was converted to the enemy army, on the condition that he didn’t want to get killed. Lavernacus wasn’t sent to battle right away.

When Lavernacus turned twenty, the opposing general also saw the strength in Lavernacus. By this time Lavernacus was fully converted to the enemy army. Now Lavernacus was totally against the Romens. The general gave Lavernacus the rank of Marshall, and control over everyone but the general. Lavernacus took a group of soldiers, and took them to attack the Romens. As the battle went on, Lavernacus saw that the Romens were getting weaker.

Lavernacus sent almost the entire army against the Romens, but the would not die. After seven years of hard fought battle the Romens seamed to be out of men to fight with, when the city of Rome sent another army of thousands of men.

When Lavernacus saw this he got on his horse and took off his armor and rode to Rome. Lavernacus thought it would be a good idea to stay in the city of Rome. He though the city was so big, nobody could find him

Meanwhile, the Romens started to destroy all of the soldiers that came towards them. They left hundreds of men dead, just laying there to be eaten by the vultures.

While that was happening, Lavernacus was realizing that he had no money, and without money how would he buy food to keep him alive. Lavernacus planed to rob a man’s house, and kill the man so nobody found out who killed him. But that plan wouldn’t work because, he got rid of his sword.

That night Lavernacus creaped, as slow and as quiet as he could. He went into a house. He tried to rob the house but was caught.

The next day he was sentenced to be killed in the arena by the lions in one day. Lavernacus didn’t know what to do, so he just excepted that he would be killed for his crime. The next day, Lavernacus was taken to the arena to be killed be the lions. There were many people came to the arena, not to pay tribute to Lavernacus, but to see the lions take another victim in seconds.

It was time, Lavernacus was put in chariot and taken to the arena. When they got there two guards escorted Lavernacus to where he would be killed.

Suddenly, one guard pulled a dagger from his boot and gave the other guard a quick jab to the chest, and he dropped dead. The guard that saved Lavernacus introduced himself as, Lucas. Lucas was also in the army like Lavernacus, but Lucas was a slave that was made to go to war. Lucas put on the other guards uniform on and put his clothes on the dead guard. Lavernacus and Lucas ran away from the arena. But they were caught by another gourd that wasn’t dumb enough to believe the story they told to him.

Both of the men were to be hung the next day. But then the gourd that caught them said, “they shall be hung now, and no latter!” So the two men were to be hung in the street. The men were fitted and ready to be hung.

Just then, a man named Chrisius fled to the scene and cut the ropes. Chrisius gave Lucas and Lavernacus swords, and they started fighting the guards.

Chrisius told Lavernacus and Lucas to climb up a building and stay there, and wait for him. So the two men did, they climbed up the closest wall. The two men didn’t know that there was five guards on the top of the building, so they jumped off. They landed on a open cart full of, hay. The two men got up and continued fighting.

From behind, a guard stabbed Chrisius. Chrisius turned around, but no quicker he fell to the ground. Lucas had gotten’ cornered by the guards. Al at once, the several guards stabbed at Lucas and killed him.

When Lavernacus tried to help Lucas he was also killed in one stab by all of the guards. All three men lay on the street as the guards looked at them.

Then, Chrisius rose from the ground. He stood up and took the sword out of himself and charged at the guards. The guards looked at him as if he had three heads. Then one of the guards drew his sword to kill Chrisius. Chrisius threw his sword at the guard and missed.

Chrisius climbed to the top of a wall. All of the guards held there swords up, and Chrisius did a swan dive onto a the ground.

THE END
