Narrator: Enkidu is roaming around the grassy planes drinking from a pond and running with gazelles, setting trappers trapped animals free, and filling in the pits.
Hunter: Father, there is a wild savage letting loose the animals that I captured.
Hunter’s father: You shall go to the city called strong walled city.
Gilgamesh: I will send a priestess to educate the wild savage the ways of a man.
Narrator : The priestess spends 7 days with Enkidu to teach him about the ways of man.
Priestess: I finally made a man out of Enkidu.
Enkidu: I will wrestle Gilgamesh.
Gilgamesh: I had a dream that a star-being blocked my path. I had to fight with it.
Enkidu: A stranger tells ME the KING ABUSES his RIGHTS. I will teach him a lesson.
Narrator: They wrestle to see who is strongest.
Gilgamesh: I am a good friend of Enkidu.
Enkidu: I am a good friend of Gilgamesh.
Gilgamesh: I want to go to the Cedar Forest and kill Humbaba.
Enkidu: I am afraid of monsters!! I don't want to die or fight Humbaba.
Gilgamesh: I will pray for help on our journey to the Cedar Forest.
Enkidu: Ok, I will go with you to the Cedar Forest to help kill Humbaba.
Gilgamesh: I want some young men to come with me and Enkidu to the Cedar Forest to help kill Humbaba.
Enkidu: Thank you for adopting me, SHAMASH. I will protect Gilgamesh on our journey to the Cedar Forest.
Shamash: I, Shamash, the sungod, adopt you, Enkidu.
Gilgamesh: I had a dream that a mountain falls on me and a young man rescues me. I had another dream and the bull wrestles with me.
Enkidu: THE Bull is Samash, the sun-god.
Gilgamesh: I am afraid Humbaba might kill us instead of us killing him.
Narrator: Humbaba hears Gilgamesh and his accomplice, Enkidu.
Humbaba: WHO has cut my cedars down?
Enkidu: Don't be afraid of Humbaba, Gigamesh, because he is a wimp!!
Narrator: Gigamesh and Enkidu cut off Humbaba’s head and kill him!! The young men take his head back to the city as proof they had killed Humbaba.
Ishtar: I, Ishtar, want to marry Gilgamesh.
Gilgamesh: I will not marry you, Ishtar because you will probably turn me into an animal!!
Narrator: So Gilgamesh refused to marry Ishtar.
Ishtar: Please give me the bull of heaven, Anu. So I can punish Gilgamesh.
Anu: There will be seven years of drought.
Ishtar: Give me the bull of heaven or I will release the dead from the underworld.
Anu: I will give you the bull of heaven.
Narrator: The bull snorts and people fall in a hole. He snorts again and another hole appears and more people fall in that hole. Then the bull charges at the two.
Gilgamesh: I will kill the Bull of Heaven because it attacked Enkidu.
Enkidu: I don’t want to die because I am too young!!
I had a dream that I must go on the road of no return!
I think that I am sick because I am going to die!
Gilgamesh: I dont want Enkidu to die!! He is my best friend!
Narrator: Enkidu dies.
Gilgamesh: I want every living creature to weep for Enkidu today.
Narrator: After a week of mourning, Gilgamesh called the city’s craftsmen.
Gilgamesh: Make a gold statue of Enkidu, craftsmen.
Narrator: Then Gilgamesh calls the townspeople to the city center.
Gilgamesh: I am leaving Uruk to find Utanapishtim, and he will tell me of everlasting life!
Narrator: Gilgamesh stops at the temple to pray.
Gilgamesh: Sin, oh great moon god, help me kill these two lions guarding this valley entrance so I can find Utanapishtim.
Narrator: The fish lady sees Gilgamesh. She is frightened because she thought he was a thief, and so she ran inside to lock the doors and windows.
Gilgamesh: I want to go to Utanapishtim. Will you take me, Boat Man?
Boatman : I can’t take you over the water of death because you broke my little statues. I nead 120 hundred feet long poles.
Gilgamesh: Here is 120 hundred feet long wooden poles. Now we can leave.
Narrator: Gilgamesh reaches the other side of the Water of Death and meets Utanapishtim, the person who survived the Great Flood.
Utanapishtim: You can’t get everlasting life from me. The gods have to grant it to you.
Gilgamesh: Ok, I won’t look for everlasting life any more, Utanapishtim. I will accept my fate of death.
Utanapishtim: I have a present for you because you have traveled so far to meet me. There is a plant that can make you look young the rest of your days. You must swim out and dive down and get it.
Gilgamesh: I will swim out and get it.
Narrator: Gilgamesh gets the plant. Then Gilamesh and the Boat Man leave for the strong walled city Uruk.
They stop and rest by a pool, and a big snake takes the plant and swims away. Gilgamesh doesn’t return with the plant of everlasting youth.
So the boat Man and Gilgamesh return to Uruk. And they live there forever.
