When her older and favored brother died in battle Aelia took it on herself to join the legions and carry on her families military heritage while her younger siblings helped her mother maintain their farm. Being the second born child and only daughter of the deceased General Lucius Vitellius, it was Aelia's responsibility to support her family, as her two little brothers were barely old enough to lift a sword and her father had died sometime before. Using her unique gift of archery, Aelia was quickly accepted into the ranks of the Roman legions. While encamped with her unit, she and her cohorts were surprise-attacked and scrambled. Aelia took the risk of running into a tent to retrieve her sword, bow and quiver in order to aid her people in the fight. The tent collapsed, penning Aelia inside and knocking her unconscious. When she came to, Aelia found she was the only member of her unit left alive. Suffering from a heavy concussion, she began to wander in search of help. She became lost and soon passed out again from fatigue and loss of blood. Once again, Aelia awoke alone, but this time in a very unfamiliar world. She'd been found by a farmer, who'd brought her to his home where his wife tended Aelia until she was well again. Aelia was bewildered, not only by such kindness, but also by the fact that her saviors were halfings. Somehow, between leaving the site of the battle and her being discovered by the halfings, she'd wandered into the realm of Ayenee. As time went on, Aelia began to travel about in this new world, meeting with other beings that were strange to her. Adjusting to her no-longer human surroundings, Aelia enlisted under the command of King Nhamik of the Province of Alekia, rising quickly in the ranks to the prestigious position of General. A position a female could never have earned in her old world. Winning the loyalty of her soldiers and the favor of the King in a surprisingly short while, the still slightly bewildered, but honor driven Aelia became a powerful leader, unknowingly putting her loyalty in the hands of an immoral King. Aelia prayed that, perhaps, someday she would be able to return home to her family, but at the time, her place was seeing to the welfare of new her people. Aelia's control over her armies was strong, but blindly lead for sometime, under the jaded guidance of the dreadful King Nhamik. It wasn't until the appearance of the rogues known as the Rangers that Aelia first began to notice the King's corrupt and deceitful reign of command. The Rangers had taken it upon themselves to fight the dark King and save the people of Alekia from his tyranny. The Rangers were lead by a man named Crane Milahn. A good humored man with skill and quite an interesting past. Aelia herself was charged with the capture of the Ranger Captain Milahn. The King made it clear that the Rangers had to be stopped. After trying and failing to hunt down the Captain several times. Aelia was finally surprised to find herself captured by him. Captain Milahn then showed Aelia the true degradation the King had brought on the land of Alekia. Eventually, Aelia and Crane agreed to work together. And the reign of King Nhamik was brought to an end when the Captain finally took the castle, and the kings head. Aelia and Crane immediately began to work together to build a new life for the citizens of Alekia... as well as building a strong romance between the two of them. It was sometime later, when Crane was away, following the rumors of imposture Rangers in the realm of Nighthawk, that Aelia went defend against a large group of raiders on the northern border of Alekia. There, she fell in battle. The full story was never known, though it was believed she was ambushed along with a small regiment of her men. She was lost in the Iges river, and no one was sure of her final fate. Perhaps she finally found her way back to her own world. But there is no doubt among her peers that if she did truely die, her soul was warmly welcomed into the great fields of Elysium... |
