My site is a profile of a man that has
put 50 years behind the wheel of the big rigs. My name, as
you can see is Charly and the good Lord willing I
will be 76 on my next birthday. I will make this short. I
have driven at one time or another almost every truck that
was made to be driven. I can even remember a time when I
drove a chain driven hard tire mack truck. I retired from
local 553 a fuel union in New York in 1964. I also retired
from local 282 on Long Island, New York in 1984. The first
union was 20 years and the second 18 years. I would have
stayed for the following 2 years in 282, but was hurt on
the job
and could not continue. The 282 job was with Gotham Sand
& Stone co. consisted of delivering stone to construction
companies, the stone sizes were from a 1/4" pebble to a
boulder of 20 ton that were used to build ocean jetties. It
was a heavyduty trucking outfit. The trucks were flat bed
units for the large stone and simi-dump's for the smaller
stone. The trucks overloaded at all times. An average load
consisting of 130,000. They were not the usual 18 wheelers
but 22. I am writing this in the event any retiree trucking
friends would like to share their stories and their
friendship. Young trucker's also welcome, in fact, I
welcome anybody that come in friendship. Come spend some
time with me and my new found toy the WEB. Thank you
for taking the time to visit my site, I hope I can do the
same for you. Please sign my guestbook and let me know you
were here.
Thank you again, Charly.
"Mack", named after the fleet
of mack trucks he would
guard at night. He lived to be 15 and was a friend to all
the drivers.
