TrueBliss was formed in January of 1999 as part of a TV series which was to follow the formation of a pop group in New Zealand from audition to the release of the album. The TV series it was based around "Popstars" became a phenomenonal success enjoying huge ratings. It won an award at the NZ TV Awards (Best Entertainment Series) and was repeated less than 6 months after it's original screening. Such was the success of "PopStars" that it was sold to Screentime Productions who produced an Australian version which led to the creation of the group Bardot. Bardot achieved success throughout Asia but flopped upon their release in the UK. "PopStars" has now been sold to more than 25 countires and whilst the girls of trueBliss are working 9-5 jobs to fund their dreams of stardom, "PopStars" producer Jonathan Dowling is rumoured to be making thousands of dollars from the overseas productions which saw the creation of Hear'Say in the UK, Eden's Crush in the USA, Sugar Jones in Canada, No Angels in Germany, Six in Ireland, Scandal'us in Australia amongst others. Whilst we don't disagree with the Australians, British and Americans et al having their own version of the show we think it was disgusting that trueBliss' management sold the concept of the show and not the band themselves overseas. |
