This picture was taken in my brother's front yard in Maryland. While visiting in the summer of 1996, I spotted this little baby racoon limping around the yard. Since racoons are generally nocturnal I went out to have a look at him. He seemed to be undernourished and was searching the grass for grubs. At closer range he appeared to have an injured left hind foot. He must have been really hungry because he did not run from me. Perhaps he was just too young to realize the danger humans pose. I put cat food out for him to help him maintain his growth during his recovery period. He loved it. He stayed in the top of a sycamore tree for several days, coming down for food and water. I decided to name him Rocky. I speculate he may have been run over by a car on a night forage with his mother and siblings. Not being able to keep up with them, he stayed in the yard. Since my return to the west coast my brother has seen him a few times but he has not made an appearance lately. Perhaps he has left the area. http://www.oocities.org/truechameleon
