2001 NCAA NATIONAL CHAMPIONS

So, as you probably (hopefully) know, on April 2, 2001, Duke's men's basketball team played the NCAA championship game versus Arizona. What ensued was some of the most exciting basketball I've seen during my time at Duke. For 2 hours, the team fought the Wildcats 'til the end. And, well, the outcome of that is pretty self explanatory. A lot of these pictures are from other places (obviously, I didn't have front row seats at the Metrodome).

Back at home in Cameron when we realized we had won...see on the big screen Shane hugging his Coach. Check out the scoreboard - "2001 National Champions" aaah!!

Another bench bites the dust and goes into the fire...D-U-K-E who the...you come to see?? DUKE DUKE... Well, if you're supposed to know the rest, you do ;-)

Same with this one...But you know what?? The mean disbanded Phi Psi's wouldn't burn their bench like they promised Mike D. they'd do if we won the CHAMPIONSHIP. VERY VERY bad to break your promise to Mike D. How about the fact that their bench was taken away by housing less than a week later??! OH YEAH!

Shane carries the trophy into Cameron for the welcome home ceremony as Nate follows him off the bus. It'd been a long trip home, but it was all worth it when they were welcomed with the stadium full of fans (who had waited in there for over 3 hours!!)

The boyz visit Shane's future home, the White House, to be honored for their accomplishment. Hail to the Chief(of Defense...Battier)! They do look even nicer in suits than they look in bball uniforms (if that's possible :)
