Alcohol
Advertisement
Back
in 1995 I found this Advertisement in a magazine. I don't remember which one it was now, so much time has
passed. I wanted to share my view with
you about this advertisement. It is an
ad by Crown Royal (alcohol) and on the left there is a doggie holding a
newspaper with a caption underneath that reads "Obedience School Graduate”
and the dog on the right, is holding a bag, that says Crown Royal on it, and
the caption underneath that dog reads "Valedictorian"
Well,
the first thing that came to me was. Of
all the nerve. Is this advertisement
saying that you become a great public speaker because you drink Crown Royal? Oh my goodness! And that the dog that went to obedience school - is just that
OBEDIENT? Hmm. Goodness some more!
The
reason this upsets me so much is because I am a Valedictorian of the Class of
1983. I graduated from Western
Technical Commercial School. Being
selected to be the candidate for this honourary role was such an honour for
me. I wrote my own speech and I was so
proud of myself doing it. It was pretty
scary standing up on stage on Graduation night to recite my speech. I certainly did not need alcohol (Crown
Royal) to give me more confidence. And
besides, my father was an alcoholic, is now in heaven, rest his soul. Those times, when I was a kid, and my dad
with his drunken stupors disgraced himself with all the ludicrous things he
would say and do when he would be soooo drunk.
We are told that Alcoholism is a disease and that it is the disease to
blame not the individual. Well, I will
give you my comments on this issue a little later, when I write an article on
Alcoholism.
So,
I was very very insulted when I saw this ad.
I saved it all this time so that I could share it with others. I am interested in sharing my feelings with
Crown Royal themselves, and I will invite them to my webpage to view my concern
about this advertisement. Even though
it has been many years since that ad was placed, I have kept the picture to
remind me of how stupid people can be, and how insulting to intelligent people
that work hard to be smart. People that
drink alcohol are not always so smart.
They upset so many lives when they impose their issues on others. They need a lot of help and as an Adult
Child of and Alcoholic; I am determined to provide my views to offer solutions
to help alcoholics really take control of their problems because I will find
ways to make them want to forever. Has
Alcoholics Anonymous help alcoholics quit drinking? It helps some, but what about the others that cannot stop...how
do we help them? If you have concerns
about Alcohol related issues, please write to me. I would love to post your opinions on my web page.
If
you see any other interesting ads like the one shown here, please do submit
them. Have a wonderful day.
