This came from an interview by IGN. IGN: One of the things you said in the rountable was that acting is a therapeutic experience for you. How about writing? I know there are a lot of people who find writing to be therapeutic, but also maddening in a sense. Since you have training in both, I was wondering which do you get more pleasure from: writing or acting? DIESEL: Pleasure? Ooo, I don't know..... IGN: Okay maybe not pleasure. But what do you look forward to the most? DIESEL: Definitely not writing. I write more out of necessity. I'm not disciplined enough to be a writer consistently. I write when I have to. I usually help out a little with the writing of the script if I have to. I'm a perfectionist. I'm very critical, especially artistically. When I'm writing, I'm locking myself in a room. I'm the worst critic in the world. I write something and than beat myself up. I'm like "Vin, you're retarded, that makes no sense." DIESEL: If the question is 'What do you do after you've written your script?' I think the answer is 'We don't know' There is no real right way. Frist, writing is incredibly, incredibly hard. It's religious. We go in front of the computer and pray for magic. We just hope that something comes out that's interesting. If you're planning on directing your script, or making a film with a director, or producing it, you should make a list of resources. Whether it's your uncle's money, your girlfriend's father's money -- start making a list of people you can go to, to get resources. Whether it's money, whether it's presses, whether it's location. It's all about determination and presistence -- which is why you should be passionate about what you're doing. Because it is really tough after you've written your script. It's you vs. the world. So get your team together, and get your confidence together, and be really confident. Don't let anyone try to moderate your self - esteem, because you're going to need it. You're going to need as much confidence as you can muster up. |
