What's new in the World of Nick?

   Man: Kyle S.
   Sup: Nancy
   Coor: Beth and Charlie

   Time to start getting serious.

I'm sick of being picked on.  Here are some examples from tonight.

First off, someone hid my timecard.  That would be Charlie, although I can't prove it.  He's dedicated himself to making my job a true hell.  Harassing me, bothering me, ordering me around.  Fun stuff.  He also set me up very well; he told me to make lots of buntrays.  At the end of the night, he complained that "Nick made too many buns."  70 too many, to be exact.  I didn't get in trouble, but an excellent ploy.

Then I lost some time.  Kyle S. must have thought my card being hidden was hilarious.  So hilarious he decided to pull some more timecard hijinx.  Since I couldn't punch in (my card was found after I started working), Kyle had to change the timeclock time and manually change my times.  He added five minutes to my break, effectively cheating me out of pay.  Probably only 25 cents or so, but since those timecards are DQ property and they are used to record pay to employees and probably also for IRS purposes, that seems like fraud to me.  Hope it was worth it if you're caught.

Something else that bothers me is that all these people in charge inevitably have a 'Nick is slow' joke that they just have to tell.  Yet, today they had me work in kitchen right up until close and then go to drive-thru.  I don't mind being helpful, but I want some respect for doing the grunt kitchen work followed by leaving kitchen to close drive-thru.

Charlie's always harassing me.  Stop it.  It's childish.  You're supposed to be an adult.  Grow up.

It's the little things like that I remember.  Now for more general annoyances.

Remember my complaint two or three weeks ago about people walking into the kitchen and saying "You made a mistake," to me?  Despite the fact that I remember that specific order and it was made correctly?  Despite the fact that the order-taker or the customer himself is the one responsible, and not The Nick?  And most of all, I didn't even make that burger but I was busy doing something else?  Also, I hate it when you snap fingers at me.  I'm Nick the Quick.  I go fast.  But believe me, when we're having a burger sale and people are ordering six or seven double cheeseburgers a piece, you might have to wait a minute or two.  Be patient.  Shut up.

And coming into kitchen with a 'mistake', holding a burger and claiming I was supposed to put something entirely different on top is just annoying.  I make the burgers as they are rung up.  I sometimes make a mistake.  Rarely.  You're probably at fault.  If you'd rather not argue about it, be diplomatic about it.  "Someone made a mistake."  Then tell me what needs to be done.  Don't come in pointing fingers at me.  Especially when you're at fault.  Especially if I've been working here longer than you.

I also worked in the morning on the truck order.  Heavy lifting and MaryJane throwing heavy boxes down the stairs at me, but I don't mind.  I get to talk to Donna's littl'uns and put stuff away.  Nobody bothering me.  I help out some.  I get up early.  Everything is good.

   But not so at night.

I'm starting to see a pattern.  Who starts stuff with The Nick and who doesn't.

In fact, looking back through the NaN archives, I find some people starting the problems.  Not me.  But certain troublemakers.

I think I'm going to record the names of the people in charge every night and potentially pick out an 'Idiot of the Shift'.  Someone who bothers me extremely well.  Of course, trainees are exempt.  They're not idiots, they just don't know what they're doing yet.  But you well-trained people who are incompetent or you mean hearted people who make my life difficult, prepare to be pointed out.
